Situated in level wet pasture surrounded by mature coniferous forestry. Depicted as a roughly circular hachured area (diam. c. 20m) on the 1836-7 edition of the OS 6'' map. All of the stones identified by Ó Nualláin remain in situ though the right-angled 'base of wall' depicted on his plan (Fig. 16) in the probable court area is no longer visible. Situated on a very slight rise in gently undulating pasture. This rath is not indicated on the 1837-8 OS 6-inch map, but is shown on the 1940-1 edition where it is named 'Lisbiggan'. It consists of roughly circular, slightly raised area (diam. 25m) defined at WSW-NW by an irregular scarp (ext. H 0.6m), at NW-NE by remnants of an earth and stone bank (Wth 5m; int. H 0.3m) and elsewhere by a barely perceptible rise. The original entrance is not evident. Located on the NW side of a rath (SL008-012001-). The souterrain consists of an L-shaped passage (Wth top 0.8m; Wth base 1.1m; H 1-1.3m) extending along the line of the removed bank of the rath. The passage extends in a NE-SW direction for a distance of 10m and then turns at a right angle at the SW end and continues for a further 6m in a NW-SE direction into the interior of the rath. The walls are of limestone rubble and the roof is made up of limestone slab lintels the majority of which are absent. Situated in low-lying level pasture within a small copse of coniferous trees. The well has been modernised and is enclosed by a circular concrete wall (int. diam. 2m; T 0.2m; H 1.25m) with access via steps on the S side. The well is located at the centre of a circular paved area (diam. c.17m) enclosed by a wire and post fence. Access to the paved area is via a gate at N. The Stations of the Cross extend around the edge of the paved area NE-SE and SW-NW. The outflow from the well extends beneath the paving and emerges at the S edge of the area where it flows into a drain. Situated on a slight SE-facing slope in gently undulating pasture. A second cashel (SL008-016---) is located 60m to the SE. Slightly raised circular area (diam. 21m) enclosed by a bank of rubble limestone (Wth 4.6m; int. H 0.5m). There is no fosse visible at ground level. Internal revetting survives at SE in the form of limestone slabs laid on edge at the base of the bank. A break (Wth 2m) in the bank at SSE, lined on either side by a limestone slabs and now blocked with rubble, marks the position of the original entrance. Compiled by: Patrick F. Situated in level pasture immediately to NW of a stream. Slightly raised circular area (diam. 25m) enclosed by a low broad bank of earth (Wth 2m; int. H 0.3m). There is no fosse visible at ground level. A NE-SW flowing stream abuts the external base of the bank E-SE. A NE-SW orientated field boundary bank, with a drain on the W side, abuts the external base of the bank W-WNW. A break (Wth 1.5m) in the bank at SW marks the position of the original entrance. Situated on a slight rise, on a slight NNE-facing slope, in gently undulating, good pasture. Slightly raised circular area (diam. 4.1m) enclosed by a broad scarp of earth (ext. H 0.2m). At the base of the scarp is a fosse (Wth 2.5m) and a broad external bank of earth (Wth 3.5m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.45m). A modern causeway (Wth 1.9m) crosses the fosse at W. Compiled by: Patrick F. At the base of the scarp is a fosse (Wth 2.7m) and an external bank of earth (Wth 3.1m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.35m). In level mature coniferous forestry. Slightly raised circular area (diam. 21m) enclosed by a broad bank of earth and stone (Wth 4.3; int. H 0.3m). At the external base of the bank is a fosse (Wth 2m). The fosse encloses the site NE-NNW and is visible as a very slight depression around the external base of the bank. A modern WNW-ESE orientated field drain has been cut along the line of the fosse NNW-NE. The original entrance is not recognisable. Situated on level ground at base of a narrow NE-SW orientated wet depression between two low hillocks, in gently undulating pasture. Roughly crescent shaped, slightly domed, mound (dims. 18m NE-SW; 11m NW-SE; max. H 0.4m) of sod-covered charcoal rich earth. The opening (Wth 4m) of the crescent faces SE. Located on the SW edge of a pasture field, bordering the shoreline on the inner reaches of Drumcliff Bay. This midden is exposed in section in the land-edge scarp (1.6m) bordering a cobble beach. It directly underlies a thin layer (D 0.1m) of dark grey humic soil at a height of 1.45-1.5m above beach level, and overlies a layer (D 0.4m) of pale-coloured sand, beneath which is a slightly darker sand layer which drops to beach level. It consists of a concentration (L 16m E‒W; D 0.15-0.2m) of estuarine sea shells -cockles, mussels, oysters, clams, periwinkles, razor shells- intermixed with grey sandy soil. The majority of the shells are in a fragmentary condition. Portions of the midden layer have slumped or collapsed down the section face as a result of on-going erosion. The underlying sand layers are riddles with rabbit burrows. The 1838 OS 6-inch map indicates a road and a number of houses bordering the shoreline in this area. There are no traces of these features now in the field. It is possible that the midden was associated with that vernacular settlement. A layer (L c. 4m E−W) of grey sandy soil incorporating charcoal chunks and fragments is visible in directly beneath the sod/topsoil (D 0.05m), c. 6m W of the midden. A pit-like feature (Wth 0.5m at top, 0.2m at base; D 0.5m) is visible in section towards the E end of the layer. At the W end of the layer another pit-like feature (Wth 0.3m; D 0.15m) is visible in section. The fill of both pits appears identical to the charcoal-rich layer, and both pits dip from the charcoal-rich layer into the underlying natural sand layers. It seems likely that these features are relatively modern in date, possibly related to the vernacular settlement shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch maps. The pits may be where fence posts along the edge of the field were driven through the charcoal layer. Notified to NMS by Tamlyn McHugh. Detached three-bay single-storey with attic rendered gate lodge built c. 1860. T-plan, west wing with single-storey with attic gabled entrance porch projecting from west elevation, single-storey flat-roofed extension c. 1980 in south-east corner. Pitched slate roof, clay ridge tiles, painted smooth-rendered stepped and corbelled chimneystack, painted timber projecting bargeboards and eaves, uPVC rainwater goods. Painted roughcast walling, chamfered smooth-rendered plinth course. Square-headed window openings, smooth-rendered slightly-projecting reveals, painted masonry sills, hood moulding to attic window to east gable, painted timber casement windows c. 1980. Square-headed entrance door opening, smooth-rendered slightly-projecting reveals, painted timber door with six raised-and-fielded panels c. 1995, plain-glazed sidelights. Set at east entrance to Lissadell estate, boundary hedges.
