In pasture, on a slight SE-facing slope. A raised oval area (33m N-S; 38m E-W) defined by an earth and stone bank (int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1.15m) NNW-NE, SE-S and SSW-W and by a scarp elsewhere. At NE the bank turns outwards towards a 6m long free-standing section of earthen bank (H 0.8m; Wth top 0.6m; Wth base 2.20m) immediately outside the interior. This may be the remains of a field boundary or part of a levelled annexe. The interior is dry and clear of overgrowth and slopes gently down to SE. Part of the NE quadrant is divided from the rest of the interior by a curved length of earth and stone bank (NW-SE). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). In low-lying gently undulating wet pasture. A slightly raised circular area (33m E-W) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 4.25m; int. H 0.55m; ext. H 1.6m) W-NW and by a scarp NW-SE. Elsewhere the enclosing element has been entirely quarried away. An external fosse (D 0.55m; Wth 1.6m at base) survives W-N and is evident N-E as a dark band of grass. The interior is quarried away except for a band of between 7 and 9m inside the surviving bank and scarp. An E-W road lies c. 8m to S of the present limits of the rath. Indicated as a small embanked circular area (diam. c. 18m) on the 1838 OS 6-inch map; only the N half is indicated by arcs of hachures NW-NE on the 1941 OS 6-inch map. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). In pasture, on a natural terrace near the top of an E-facing slope. A subcircular area (int. diam. 19.5m) enclosed by a stone-faced earthen bank (Wth 1.5m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1.6m) SW-NE, disturbed along the S and W arcs by a NE-SW field boundary. A possible entrance (Wth 2m) is at NE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). In pasture near the top of an E-facing slope. An oval area (int. diam. 30m E-W; 21m N-S) enclosed by two earthen banks with an intervening fosse (Wth 5m). The inner bank (Wth 2.5m; int. H 1m; ext. H 2m) is the most substantial. The outer bank (Wth 1.8m; ext. H 0.2m) has a gap (Wth 2m) at N. The entrance is through the inner and outer banks (Wth 3m and 4m respectively) at E with a causeway across the fosse, in line with a NE-SW field boundary which crosses the centre of the interior. A possible megalithic tomb (SL033-166----) lies c. 20m to W. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). On a low ridge in pasture c. 20m to W of a rath (SL033-044----). In 1836 this feature is referred to as a 'Giant's Grave' (OSNB, vol. 1, 395) but no details of the site are provided. There are three stones at the site. To the N there is an upright stone (L 0.95m N-S; Wth 0.6m E-W; H 1.4m). The second stone (1.6m x 1.1m; T 0.3m) lies prostrate 1.7m to the S and the third example (2.5m x 0.8m; T 0.55m), also prostrate, is a further 2.3m in the same direction. While it is possible that the stones at the site are the last remains of a megalithic tomb, other interpretations are possible, e.g. a stone row, and so its nature must remain uncertain. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner.
