In undulating pasture, on the S side of and just below the top of a ridge. A raised circular area (29.4m E-W; 30.4m N-S) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 4.3m; int. H 1.25m; ext. H 2.1m) and an external fosse. The bank is low (H 0.3m) internally along on the S and E arcs and at W has been cut vertically leaving a berm (Wth 1.6m) between it and the fosse. The fosse (Wth 3m; D 1m) is well defined SW-NE where it is bordered externally by a field boundary but E-S is evident only as slight depression marked by a dense growth of irises. The interior slopes down to SE. A raised area (6m N-S; 8m E-W; H 0.4m) was noted in the NW quadrant against the bank at NW and a depression (2.5m N-S; 8m E-W; D 0.6m) was noted in the S half of the interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). In pasture, on the E-facing side of a low rise. A raised oval area (30m N-S; 22.5m E-W) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 3.7m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.45m) with a broad external slump. The bank is low internally along the E and S arcs. There is a possible entrance (Wth 3m) at E, partially blocked by a hawthorn bush, and gaps occur at N (Wth 2m) and S (Wth 3m). The interior is covered by grass and thistles and slopes gently down from the centre to NE, E and S. A field boundary abuts the bank at SSE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Date of upload: 18 January 2008 - SL025-118: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CSL025-118----. In pasture, on the narrow top of a small ridge; the ground slopes away abruptly c. 10m to NW with more gradual slopes to S and SE. A raised oval area (26m NE-SW; 36.7m NW-SE) defined by two earthen banks and an intervening fosse. The inner bank (Wth 4.3m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 2m) is evident all round except ENE-ESE where the interior is defined by a scarp (H 1.2m), a 5m section of which has been eroded. The outer bank (Wth 2.7m; int. H 0.55m; ext. H 0.4m) and the intervening fosse (Wth 2.6m) are best evident SE-W, less well defined W-NE and levelled and infilled NE-SE. A field boundary truncates the outer bank and the intervening fosse at NE. The interior is divided by an E-W trackway, flanked by field boundaries, just N of centre. There is a low rise roughly in the centre of the interior just S of the trackway. A N-S field boundary crosses the SE quadrant of the interior and the remains of another abuts the outer bank at S. Another rath (SL025-119----) lies c. 50m to SE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). In undulating pasture, on a gentle SE-facing slope. A raised oval area (22m NW-SE; 38m NE-SW) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 3m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.15m). Along the SE arc, the internal bank height is low (H 0.3m) but the external slope in very pronounced (H 2.3m). Some stones protrude from the sod on the internal face of the bank. A possible entrance (Wth 1m) is at E and gaps occur at SW (Wth 2m) and SSE. The SE portion of the interior is raised to compensate for the hillslope, though the interior still slopes gently down to SE. A slightly raised roughly circular area (diam. c. 9m), defined by a scarp (H 0.5m) E-SE, is in the centre of the interior. Another rath (SL025-118----) lies c. 50m to NW. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). In undulating pasture, on the S end of a ridge with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. A substantially raised circular area (25.8m NW-SE; 26.9m NE-SW) enclosed on top by an inner earthen bank and at base by a fosse with an outer bank. The inner bank (Wth 5.2m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 3.4m) is low internally and at N and SE has been levelled. A well-defined fosse (Wth 2.4m) with a narrow base is evident all round. An outer bank (Wth 3.3m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.4m) is evident all round and its slope is enhanced along the NW and SE arcs by the natural slope of ground. The entrance (Wth 2m) is at SE with a causeway (Wth 4m) across the fosse. Gaps (Wth 2m) occur in the inner and outer banks at W and a low area in the inner bank faces a gap (Wth 6m) in the outer bank at E. The interior is generally level though there is a slightly raised area (c. 11m NW-SE; 15m NE-SW) in the N half at the W end of which is a circular hollow (diam. 3m; D 0.4m). There is a road (SL025-159----) c. 40m to N. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). The bank is low internally E-S and incorporated into a field boundary system W-N. Low eroded gaps occur in the bank at SSE (Wth 1m) and W (Wth 1.2m). The interior slopes gently down to S. There is a quarry immediately outside the bank at NW. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). In undulating pasture, on a level terrace just below the top of a NE-SW ridge. A slightly sunken sod-covered track, flanked by substantial earthen field boundaries (Wth 2.2-4.6m; max. H 1.5m), is traceable for c. 500m in a roughly NE-SW line (Pl. 81). Roughly midway along its length, a side branch (Wth 2.8m) (SL025-112003-) extends (L c. 230m) downslope to NW to a church and graveyard (SL025-112001-; SL025-112002-) in Killoran North. The average width of the track is c. 8m but it widens to 12.7m at the branch junction. The side branch is flanked on its S side by a field boundary and on the N side is defined by a scarp (H 0.6m) dug into the side of the ridge.
