In rough pasture, on the S end of a ridge. A roughly circular area (int. diam. 27.5m x 23.4m) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (Wth 1.2m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 0.8m) and truncated by a linear field boundary SW-N. The interior is uneven and wet. The rath is overgrown with bushes. An external fosse (Wth 2.4m; D 0.4m) is evident along the W arc. In mountain bog, on a SW-facing slope and 8m SW of a 'St Elba's Grave' (SL035-073002-). A U-shaped well (max. L 1.7m NE-SW; max. Wth 0.5m NW-SE; max. H 1.3m from the base to the roof) with walls of roughly coursed limestone rubble (T 0.4m) roofed with limestone flags. The roof slopes gently down from the front to the rear. The opening into the well (Wth 0.7m; H 0.8m) faces SW. The base of the well is stone-lined and holds water. It was recorded in 1836 that the well was named after Saint Eilibh, a sister saint of Lasair (OSL, 239). In 1942-4 it was recorded as being named after Saint Ailbe and that it was visited by persons suffering from any diseases (but particularly mental diseases) from 15th August to 8th September though it was then only infrequently visited (ITA). There is a penitential station (SL035-073003-) c. 10m to E. In mountain bog, on a SW-facing slope and 8m NE of 'Toberelba', a holy well (SL035-073001-). 'St Elba's Grave' consists of three elements: a flat slab, an upright slab and a modern cross. The flat uninscribed rectangular limestone slab (L 3m; Wth 1m; T 0.3m; long axis NE-SW) is obscured along its edges by peat and moss. At the NE end of this slab is an upright rectangular limestone slab (Wth 0.46m; H 0.85m; T 0.15m) cemented to the SW side of the plinth on which the modern cross stands. The slab has been shaped, but not dressed, to give angular corners and is inscribed 'I H S' (the 'S' being reversed). Cemented to the top of this slab, on the same alignment, is a roughly square limestone flag (Wth 0.5m; H 0.4m; T 0.08m). To the NE of the flat slab is a modern granite cross (inscribed 'A M D C' across the arms facing SW) on a plinth of three tiers (base 2.05m square; H 2.9m). On the lowest tier (H 1.1m) are tokens, including some euro coins in a tin, indicating recent pilgrim visits. According to tradition, the large flat stone is the grave of Saint Aillbe and people suffering from illness who sleep soundly overnight on the stone are cured of their ailments (ITA). There is a penitential station (SL035-073003-) 1.6m to SE. In mountain bog, on a SW-facing slope and 1.6m to SE of 'St Elba's Grave' (SL035-073002-). The 'station' house is a partially collapsed roofless roughly rectangular structure (int. dims. 2.9m NE-SW; 2m NW-SE) with walls of roughly coursed drystone rubble limestone (T 0.5m; max. H 2m). The entrance (Wth 1m) is at the NW end of the NE wall with a limestone slab (Wth 1.15m; H 0.9m; T 0.15m) that was used to block it still leaning against the NW side. The SW wall (T 1.3m) is thicker than the other walls and extends beyond the NW and SE corners of the structure by 0.4-0.65m. It also bulges halfway along its length suggesting a previous collapse and repair. 'Toberelba' holy well (SL035-073001-) is c. 10m to W.
