Situated on a naturally-occurring rise in a level pasture bordered by low ridges at N and S. Raised circular area (diam. 22m E–W) enclosed by a partially quarried-out bank (Wth 3-3.5m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1.5-1.7m). At the outer foot of the bank is a low bank (Wth 1.4m; H 0.3m) of uncertain antiquity. This follows the curve of the rath at SSW-NW but at NNW continues beyond the rath to intersect with another bank (Wth. 2.8m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.7m) which curves around the rath at NW-SW at a distance of 9-10m. The intervening space between the rath and the outermost bank is subdivided by three radial field banks at NE, E and S. In the N half of the rath interior is an anomalous rectangular feature (SL012-086002-). Compiled by: Patrick F. Remnants of an external fosse (Wth. 4m; ext. D 1m) are evident at NW. At the outer lip of the fosse are ephemeral traces of a possible second bank (Wth 3m; H 0.2m). Situated at the E side of a low rise in pasture. Raised subrectangular area (29.8m N-S; 25.2m E-W) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone (Wth 2-3m; int. H 0.1- 0.2m; ext. H 0.55-0.6m) which from E-S has been modified and incorporated into a modern, although now-disused, NE-SW field boundary. Other, probably later features, include the rendering of the outer face of the bank with large stones at E and a short length of free-standing bank (Wth 0.8-1.1m; H 0.3m) at SE. A break (Wth. 2m) in the bank at NE may represent an original entrance. In the level W half of the interior is the remains of a possible house (SL018-044002-). Compiled by: Patrick F. In pasture, located within a field system (SL018-045003-). Remains of a rectangular two-roomed house (20m NE-SW; 6m NW-SE), with walls defined by low sod-covered banks (Wth 1.4m; H 0.5m). The house is partitioned into two rooms of roughly equal size by NW-SE wall. The SE side of the house is incorporated into a field boundary which forms part of a grid of small rectangular fields (SL018-045003-), which also enclose a ringfort/cashel (SL018-046001-) located c. 130m to S. The rectangular house and grid of fields appear to post-date the ringfort and may be post-1700 in date. On a terrace of gently undulating pasture, broken in parts by rock outcropping, bordered at E by a river ravine. This field system consist of a regular grid of rectangular fields covering an area of c. 400m N-S by c. 250m E-W. At the E and SE there is a concentration of smaller fields (c. 55-60m NE-SW and 25-35m NW-SE) defined by low sod-covered banks/walls (Wth c. 1.8-2.3m; H 0.5-0.8m), covering an area of c. 200m N-S by 125m E-W. Abutting one of the field boundaries are the wall-footings of a rectangular two-roomed house (SL018-045002-) suggesting that some of the smaller fields represent garden plots associated with a small settlement. Towards the SE there is an area of relatively recent small scale quarrying (SL018-045001-). At its S end, the field system incorporates the enclosing elements of a ringfort/cashel (SL018-046001-). To W and N the faint outlines are visible of levelled field boundaries enclosing larger rectangular fields (c. 65-75 NE-SW; c. 80-150m NW-SE) with traces of cultivation ridges. The field system and the rectangular house appear to post-date the ringfort and may be post-1700 in date. This record refers to the remains of a bank or wall enclosing a roughly D-shaped area, which may originally have been circular (diam. c. 85-90m). The wall/bank roughly follows the lower contours of a natural elevation. At SW–N it can be traced as a low, degraded stony rise (Wth c. 2m). At N–SE, it is reduced to a scarp (ext. H 1m at SE), and at S it is truncated by a modern road (N59). Centrally located within the enclosure, on the summit of the elevation, is a cashel (SL018-046001-). The intervening gap between the cashel and the enclosure bank/wall measures c. 20-25m and is sub-divided by transverse walls. The date of the enclosure is uncertain. It is possible that the enclosure is contemporary with the cashel and represents an outer enclosing bank of the cashel. Alternatively the enclosure may relate to the incorporation of the cashel into a later field system (SL018-045003-). It is recorded in an aerial photograph (ACP V203/ 134-3; roll 128, print 1).
