Situated on slight SW-facing slope in gently undulating pasture. Depicted on the 1835 edition of the OS 6'' map as being circular. The rath now consists of a raised D-shaped area (dims. 19m NE-SW; 17m NW-SE) enclosed by an earthen scarp (H 1.25m). There is no fosse visible at ground level. A NE-SW orientated drystone field wall crosses the site to NW of centre and the site has been levelled on the NW side of the wall SW-N. A second drystone field wall lies along the top of the scarped edge N-E. A low grassy covered bank of modern field clearance earth and stone lies on top of the scarped edge E-ESE. A band (Wth 1.4m) of lighter coloured grass on top of the scarp ESE-SW may mark an original bank. The original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F. There is no fosse visible at ground level. The inner face of the bank at N is revetted with limestone slabs laid on edge. There are also occasional slabs laid on edge at right angles to the external face of the bank SW-NW. The original entrance is not recognisable. The interior of the site is raised on the S side to compensate for the underlying natural slope. The interior of the site is lower than external ground level by 0.25m NW-NE. Compiled by: Patrick F. Situated on a slight S-facing slope in gently undulating pasture. Oval-shaped raised area (dims. 28m E-W; 26m N-S) enclosed by a bank of earth and stone (Wth 4.9m; int. H 1m). There is no fosse visible at ground level. From E-SW the bank is absent and the site is enclosed by a scarp (H 0.6m). A modern drystone field wall lies along the top of the bank SW-NNW while a relic drystone field wall lies along the top of the bank NNW-E. The original entrance is not recognisable. Situated on a slight E-facing slope in a small clearing within a mature deciduous forest. The mound has been constructed in two tiers. The top tier consists of a circular flat-topped mound (diam. top 4m; diam. base 16m) enclosed by an earthen scarp (ext. H 0.7m). The second tier, at the base of the central mound, consists of a level terrace (Wth 2.5m) enclosed by a steep scarped edge (ext. H 2.2m; Total base diam of mound 20m). At the base of the second tier is a fosse (Wth 2.95m) and an external bank (Wth 3.8m; int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.8m). The mound has slumped down and the fosse and external bank are absent W-NNW. Roughly rectangular area (dims. 5.2m NE-SW; 3.5m NW-SE) enclosed by the footings of a drystone wall (Wth 0.75m; int. H 0.35m; ext. H 0.35m). The wall is made up of limestone slabs laid on edge on the internal and external face of the wall with packing of small rubble limestone between. At the external base of the bank is a fosse (Wth 3m; D 0.15m). There breaks in the bank at NW (Wth 1.5m) and at ENE (Wth 1.05m), either of which could mark the position of the original entrance. Situated on a slight SSW-facing slope in gently undulating pasture. Slightly raised roughly circular area (diam. 21m) enclosed by a narrow bank of earth and stone (Wth 2.65m; int. H 0.1m). At the external base of the bank is a fosse (Wth 3.25m; D 0.3m). From SE-SW the bank is partially obscured by dumps of field clearance stone. From SW-NW the bank is absent where a NNE-WSW orientated field drain, with a laneway immediately to W, forms the W edge of the site. Situated on a slight SSW-facing slope in gently undulating pasture. Roughly circular area (diam. 26m) enclosed by the footings of a drystone wall (Wth 2.3m; H 0.3m). There is no fosse visible at ground level. From N-SE the footings consist of two rows of limestone slabs and blocks (av. dims. L 1-1.6m; T 0.3-0.8m; H 0.3m) with a fill of small rubble between. From SSE-SE the basal external blocks are visible only as this area is now a stockpile (H 1.8m) of rubble stone where three field walls meet. The footings are absent elsewhere and the edge of the site is defined by a slight sod-covered rise. The original entrance may have been at N where there is a slab across the end of the footings. Located on the W side of the interior of Gortarowey rath (SL008-042001-). A roughly rectangular depression (dims 4.5m E-W; 3m N-S; D 0.6m) probable marks a collapsed souterrain. Situated on slight SSW-facing slope, in gently undulating pasture. Not indicated on any edition of the OS 6-inch map. The cashel consists of a circular area (diam. 26m) enclosed by a low bank of rubble limestone (Wth 4-5.25m; int. H 0.3-0.45m). There is no fosse visible at ground level. From NE-E the band is very denuded and has a low broad profile. From S-W field clearance rubble has been added to the bank obscuring the edges. Two straight drystone field walls, one intersecting with the edge of the cashel at NW wall at SW and the other at ESE and at W, intersect at an approximate right angle to SW of centre. Located on the W side of the interior of Gortarowey cashel (SL008-043001-). A low stone bank (Wth 2.4m; H 0.2m; L 10m) extends in a SE-NW orientated arc across the interior of the cashel. The bank terminates at the NW end at a NNE-WSW orientated field wall that crosses the site. There is a slight trace of the arc continuing as if it originally extended to enclose a circular area. Roughly D-shaped area (dims. 12m NE-SW; 18m NW-SE) defined by modern field boundary banks that appear in part to follow an earlier enclosure. From ENE-W the field boundary (Wth top 1.5m; int. H 1.5m) curves gently with a drain immediately outside. From W-NNW and WNW-ENE the sides are defined by straight field boundaries. The original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F. Rye straw thatch roof, diamond-patterned scalloped ridge, painted concrete skews, painted smooth-rendered chimneystacks. Limewashed smooth-rendered walling. Square-headed window openings, painted stone sills, painted one-over-one timber sash windows c. 2000. Square-headed door opening, varnished hardwood vertically-sheeted door c. 2000. Bitmac frontage to road, wooded setting, at crossroads.
