In level pasture, 750m N of Lough Arrow. This passage tomb is a National Monument (No. 152) in state ownership. It is a massive round cairn (diam. 62m N-S, 60m E-W; H c. 6m) retained by a kerb of substantial kerbstones. Twenty-three are exposed from S around to NW and seven more are visible from N around to SE. Considerable quarrying has taken place along the perimeter of the site. (Ó Nualláin 1989, 94). A possible rath (SL034-128----) lies c. 90m to NE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Date of upload: 18 January 2008 See linked document with details from Seán Ó Nualláin, Survey of the Megalithic Tombs of Ireland. Volume V. County Sligo. (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1989) - SL034-129: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CSL034-129----. On a SSW-facing slope. An oval area (50m E-W; 34m N-S) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 1.8m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 0.8m) and an external boggy fosse (Wth 1.5m; D 0.5m). The interior slopes down to S and is crossed by a low E-W field boundary. Indicated only on the 1914 OS 6-inch map as a large oval field with coniferous trees planted within it. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Date of upload: 18 January 2008 - SL034-254: Megalithic structure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CSL034-254----. Located c. 90m SE of Heapstown cairn (SL034-128----) and indicated as out-cropping rock on the OS 6-inch map. It comprises a large bouder (dims. 2.75m N-S; 2.75 E-W; T 1.30m). Two support stones, apparently set, are visible on the S and other stones and material support it on the N. The extant remains are hardly sufficient to permit classification as a megalithic structure with certainty and possibility that this may be a natural feature cannot be excluded. It has affinities with the possible boulder-burial at Achonry (SL032-189----). Compiled by: Paul Walsh Date of upload: 17 June 2011 Works at or in relation to a recorded monument need two months' written notice to the National Monuments Service (National Monuments (Amendment) Act 1994, section 12). ## Architectural heritage (National Inventory of Architectural Heritage) No building of the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage stands in the townland of Heapstown. ## Ground and risks (Radon Risk Map of Ireland, EPA; Landslide Susceptibility Classification and LiDAR, Geological Survey Ireland) - Radon: at the centre of the townland of Heapstown, about 1 in 5 homes in this area is likely to have high radon levels. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
