Attached to the summer shoreline, in a small lagoon in the NW corner of Lough Gara. A kidney-shaped low-cairn crannog (14m N-S; 14m E-W; H 1.02m above the muddy lake-bed) the surface of which consists of shattered angular stones (diam. 0.03-0.05m) with some larger subangular stones (diam. 0.3-0.4m). The crannog is high in the centre, sloping gradually down towards the edges. Along the water's edge S-SW are c. 13 horizontal roundwood posts. Large horizontal timbers (L 3m; Wth 0.25m) are also evident in the water to E as well as a number of quite substantial flagstones placed on a layer of scattered stones. The crannog edge is distinct in material but not in shape. A few sally trees grow on it. This crannog has been radiocarbon dated to the early medieval period and artifacts associated with it support that date (Fredengren 2002, KILF 005). (Cross 1953, fig. 1). On a ridge in rocky pasture. A circular area (int. diam. 24.7m E-W; 24.5m N-S) enclosed by a collapsed stone wall (Wth 2.7m; int. H 1.4m; ext. H 1.2m). The wall is composed of a foundation course of large limestone boulders with internal and external facing of smaller stones retaining a rubble core. The entrance (Wth 1.7m) is at E. The interior slopes gently down to W. According to local information, stone was robbed from the cashel wall to build the road to S. Another cashel (SL044-055----) lies c. 30m to S. In undulating rocky pasture, on a natural elevation overlooking Lough Gara to SW. A circular area (28m N-S; 30m E-W) defined ESE-SW by a scarp (H 1.5m), SW-NNE by a ruined stone wall (Wth 2.5m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1.1m) and N-ENE by a slight undulation. The scarp is irregular and dilapidated with occasional stones and boulders protruding from the sod while the stone wall is engulfed in bushes and brambles and is particularly dilapidated at W. The interior is slightly domed in the centre and occasional stones and boulders break the surface. At ESE there is a large heap of rubble at the junction of the scarp and a ruined field boundary wall that extend to E from the cashel. Another cashel (SL044-054----) lies c. 30m to N. In pasture, on a S-facing slope. A densely overgrown roughly circular area (diam. c. 25m) enclosed by a drystone wall (Wth 1.2m; int. H c. 1m; ext. H c. 1m). Sections of the wall at NW and SE are partly collapsed. The interior is level, engulfed by overgrowth and inaccessible; it is raised c. 2m SE-S to compensate for the hillslope. Because of the overgrowth, the existence of a possible inner enclosure visible in an aerial photograph (ACAP, V 227/19-20) and occupying most of the interior, could not be determined. Not included in the SMR (1989) but listed in the RMP (1995) and classified 'Lime Kiln'. Not marked on any edition of the OS 6-inch map. In pasture, on the E side of a road. The low remains of a semicircular stone-built structure (4.6m E-W; 4.4m N-S; H 1.6m) built against a W-facing slope. The remains of the recess (Wth 1.35m) are on the W side, the top and front of which are collapsed. There are sloping slabs to the rear of the recess with a narrow ope at the base. The remains of a circular funnel (diam. 1.3m) lined with heat shattered stones is also evident. It is likely to be post-1700 AD in date.
