The S portion of the interior is cut into the hillslope and the N portion is raised 1.3m to compensate for the slope. A NW-SE field boundary crosses the NE quadrant of the interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). In undulating pasture, on a low rise. A raised circular area (diam. c. 35m) enclosed by remains of an earthen bank (Wth 5.3m; int. H 1.1m) with numerous gaps and by an external flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 8m; D 0.5m). A short stretch of the foundations of a drystone wall is visible on top of the bank along the N arc. The interior is heavily poached by cattle and raised c. 1.5m above external ground level and has a small pile of stones in the centre. The bank and fosse are overgrown with bushes. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). In flat pasture. A raised circular area (diam. 1.7m) surrounded by a shallow fosse (Wth 1.3m) and an external bank (Wth 1.9m; ext. H 0.56m); some disturbance has occurred along the E arc causing bank slippage (pers. comm. J. Farrelly and M. Keane). Another ring-barrow (SL038-084----) lies c. 600m to WSW. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). In pasture, on the W-facing slope of a drumlin. A D-shaped area (dims. 21m N-S; 17m E-W), with the straight side at W, is defined by a scarp N-NNE and elsewhere by an earthen bank (Wth 2.5m; int. H 0.1-0.7m) with numerous gaps. A dry flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 4.2m; D 1.3m) is evident all round apart from a short section S-SSW. The outer earthen bank (Wth 3m; ext. H 0.6m) is evident along the N half of the straight side and curving around the NW corner. The W portion of the interior is raised c. 1m above ground level and the E portion is cut into the hillslope to compensate for the slope. A section of the fosse and bank at N has been removed due to quarrying. A road lies immediately to W of the linear side. A ENE-WSW field boundary crosses the interior. There is a souterrain (SL038-086002-) in the NE quadrant of the interior. By the 1941-2 OS 6-inch map only the E half of the rath remained, indicated by an arc of bank NNE-S with an external fosse E-S. The W half was probably removed during the construction of the adjacent road. Another rath (SL038-087----) lies c. 50m to N. Date of upload: 18 January 2008 - SL038-145: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CSL038-145----. Located on a low, dry rise in an expanse of damp, lowlying, rush-grown pasture, on the E bank of a meandering N-flowing stream. The stream lies 4-5m to W of the SW arc of the enclosure. There is a forestry plantation on the W bank of the stream. The enclosure is overlooked by a N-S ridge, located c. 100m to E, on the summit of which is a rath (SL038-062----). This enclosure is not shown on the 1838 and 1922 OS 6-inch maps. It consists of a low, oval platform (44m E−W; 31.5m N−S) defined by a scarp (Wth of slope c. 2-3m; ext. H 0.5m, 0.8m at W) and enclosed by a fosse. The scarp is highest on the W arc of the enclosure, where the ground dips naturally to the stream. The fosse is barely discernible as a very slight depression (Wth 1-1.5m) at N−S, marked by a band (Wth c. 2m) of yellow flag iris at NW and S. The N half of the grass-covered interior appears very slightly higher than the S half. The entrance may be at E, where there is a low area (Wth 2.5-3m) in the scarp with a hint of a causeway over the fosse. Several roughly circular, vegetation-covered stony heaps (diam. c. 3-4; H 1m) line the edge of the stream, probably upcast material from dredging. Two of these overlie the enclosure scarp at W and SW. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
