Situated at the S end of a low N-S ridge, sloping steadily to the S. The Civil Survey (1654-6) refers to 'one thatcht house and twelve Cabbins' in Ballinenagh and lists 'Wm. Kenedy of Ballyneny' and ' Phillip Glysane of ye same Irish Papist' as proprietors (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 260). A cluster of houses is depicted in the south-centre of this townland on the 1st ed. (1841) OS 6-inch map but there are now no visible traces of these at ground level. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Situated on level ground in a valley. A possible trivallate ringfort which survives intact at NE only, elsewhere the site consists of a circular area (diam. 25.4m N-S; 26.7m E-W) defined by a much denuded bank (Wth 4.7m; int. H 0.72m; ext. H 0.7m), reduced to a scarp in places and a wide flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 5.3m; D 0.95). At NE there is a second bank (Wth 6m; ext. H 0.81m) with a corresponding fosse (Wth 3.5m; D 1.39m) and external bank (Wth 5.5m; ext. H 0.36m). The outer enclosing elements are indicated as a field boundary on the current edition OS 6-inch map which casts some doubt on the antiquity of the outer enclosing elements. This may have been a bivallate site which was enclosed by a modern field boundary giving the impression of a trivallate site. Depicted on the first edition OS 6-inch map as a univallate ringfort. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). Situated on a gradual ENE-facing slope in pasture. Not indicated on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map but shown on the latest ed. as a circular mound/enclosure. The site has been levelled and is barely visible as a roughly circular-shaped platform (diam. 27.3m N-S; 27m E-W; H 0.63m) with an undulating surface. There is a natural depression extending N-S immediately W of the site. Situated in undulating meadow. Depicted as a very small circular site on the 1st ed. (1843) OS 6-inch map and not indicated on the 1904 ed. The field boundaries have been altered, a new road built and houses constructed making it difficult to establish the exact location of the site. It may be located in the field to the NW of the last house in the lane. No visible trace could be identified at ground level. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner.
