At the base of an E-facing slope of low ridge running roughly N-S. Field under tillage. No visible trace at ground level. This kiln was excavated in 1986 and consisted of 'the side walls of a partly destroyed, keyhole-shaped corn-drying kiln, maximum dimensions 6.60m long and 1.30m wide. An area of rough pebble paving was revealed at the entrance area of the drafting flue which had a clearly defined 'fire-bowl'. Remains of charred cereal grain were retrieved from the fill of the circular drying chamber...There were no other features or finds' (O'Donnell 1987, 33). A full description of the excavation is published (Gowen 1988, 158-62). On the E-facing slope of a gentle N-S ridge, in pasture. A raised, roughly circular area (diam. 22m N-S; 20.7m E-W), defined by scarp (H 0.32m S quad.; 0.92m upslope; 1.76m downslope) and surrounded by a fosse (Wth 2.1m) cut into the ridge. The interior slopes quite steeply to E. The E side of the monument utilises the natural drop of the ridge. There are natural pools immediately to the NE and SE and one to W (diam. c. 6m) at the base of the scarp. There is a ramped entrance in the E quadrant between the two ponds (Wth c. 7m), it is quite steep and narrows towards the exterior. There are clumps of scrub and brambles on the SE edge of the monument and also in the centre of the interior and along the N side which has been fenced off with post and wire fencing. Otherwise the interior is grass-covered and cattle poached in places, the scarp is quite denuded. A field boundary runs E-W along the N quadrant. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011 - TS084-004: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CTS084-004----. In undulating terrain on the crest of a ridge with the land sloping away to the SE. It is in a meadow which has been recently cut leaving a buffer zone of 5m around the monument. The main Clonmel-Carrick-on-Suir road runs NW-SE past the SW quadrant. It is a raised oval area (diam. 36m NW-SE) defined by scarp. The bank is composed of earth and stone. There is a fosse marked on the 2nd (1901-05) ed. OS 6-inch map in the N quadrant which was removed during road-widening works. There is a possible fosse at the base of the scarp in the E quadrant (Wth 5m; D 0.35m) which has a wide shallow depression. The interior is concave with lush grass cover. The SW quadrant is transected NW-SE by a concrete block wall. The road has been widened since the 2nd ed. OS 6-inch map and there is a steep scarp on either side of the road. The monument has been truncated and the SW quadrant levelled. The height above the scarp in the NW quadrant is 2.25m. There is dumped stone and material outside the NW quadrant close to the concrete wall. A post and wire fence runs parallel to the concrete wall through the interior of the enclosure. Just off the summit of a hill which overlooks the Suir river valley on a S-facing slope and surrounded by pasture. It is located on the N side of a graveyard (TS084-005001-). The church (dims. 5.9m N-S; c. 14.8m E-W) is in poor condition, most of the N wall has been crudely rebuilt using unmortared limestone rubble and the E wall has been reconstructed to a height of 2m. Only the original E part of the N wall survives (L 4m; max. H c. 3.6m) and this is constructed of randomly coursed limestone rubble with occasional sandstone masonry. Remains of a window, with only the E side of the sandstone embrasure surviving, is visible on the inner face of the N wall and appears to have been blocked-up in an earlier building phase. A possible sill of a single-light window is visible in the external face of this wall. There is no trace of the W wall. Only the E part of the S wall (L 8.6m) survives. At the E end of the S wall, a wall memorial has been inserted. It is made of limestone and has a central plaque with an inscribed inscription which is very faded, possibly dating to 1730. To either side of the plaque there is an incised scroll. Just off the summit of a hill which overlooks the Suir river valley on a S-facing slope and surrounded by pasture land. The church (TS084-005----) is located on the N side of an irregularly shaped graveyard (max. dims. 35m N-S; 53m E-W). The graveyard is in a poor state of repair, except on the N side which was rebuilt in 1986. A plaque on this wall commemorates the reconstruction of the church by the local community in 1986. In the graveyard there are three vaults built at the W end in area of the interior. Just off the summit of a hill which overlooks the Suir river valley on a S-facing slope and surrounded by pasture land. The church (TS084-005----) is located on the N side of the graveyard (TS084-005001-). Within the graveyard is a limestone armorial plaque, possibly of 17th-century date. It appears to have been re-shaped to form a pointed top and reused as a headstone. The decoration consists of a shield with faded motifs, surmounted by a plaited cord with tassel and helmet with mantle. The closed vizored helm, facing sideways suggest this was the coat of arms of an esquire or gentleman.
