Natural spring well with partial evidence of a stone surround now covered in thorn bushes making examination impossible. No votive offerings visible and well no longer visited by people in the locality. According to the OS letters there was an ash tree growing over the well in the early 1800s which was not present in 1840 and that there was a local tradition that the well had miraculously moved a location at the nearby church to its present location (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 3, 36). No surface remains visible. According to the OS letters the stones of the castle were removed from the location in the early 1800s (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 3, 37). In grassland atop a low rise of ground with good views in all directions. There is a holy well (TS066-065----) 250m to the NW and a castle (TS066-066----) 370m to the N. A low mound (L 11m; H 0.7m; Wth 4.5m) orienated on a N-S axis c. 20m to SW of cross (TS066-068002-) may represent the remains of a church. According to the OS letters there was an old church here called 'Teampull San Sionáin' and traces of the foundation stones were visible near the cross in the 1840s (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 3, 36). The OS letters record the local belief that 'in the time of a great pestilence which prevailed in the neighbourhood, men drove their cattle to, and themselves took refuge in the field in which the old Church was situated, and in which they believed themselves and the cattle safe from the infection' (ibid.). In grassland atop low rise of ground with good views in all directions. Church (TS066-068001-) 20m to N and holy well (TS066-065----) 257m to NW. An imperforate-ringed red-sandstone conlgomerate cross (H c. 1.65; T 0.26m) orienated E-W with arms protruding 15cm beyond the ring (diam. 0.4m) of the cross. The terminal of the N arm (H 0.35m) of the cross is decorated with celtic interlace while the N side and E face of the shaft (Wth 0.55m) also appear to have been decorated but have been eroded over the centuries and only the slightest suggestion of decoration survives. No visible decoration on S side of shaft or S terminal of arm of cross. The E face of the cross has five bosses carved in relief, one in the centre and one at each junction of the arms of the cross and ring, while the W face of the cross has a celtic cross carved in relief. At the base of the cross to the S there is a sandstone rectangular base ( dims. 0.45m x 0.80m) with socket (dism. 0.25m x 0.15m) in centre of base for shaft of cross. Evidence of roll moulding running along edge of shaft of cross and incised double line ringed cross on E face of cross. The E face of the cross has oval shaped depression between the arms of the cross while on the W face the depressions are like a thistle cross. According to the OS letters this cross was lying flat on the ground in the early 1800s and was erected a few years before 1840 when the local people erected it into its present position (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 3, 36). An irregular area (dims. 52m E-W; 46m N-S) defined by levelled scarp (Wth 1.75m; H 0.15m) E-S-W which is best defined (Wth 1m; H 0.1m) along the linear side (L 50m) to N. The scarp curves irregularly E-S-W as if eroded by water, a river is located c. 8m to the S. A shared fosse (basal Wth 2.5m; overall Wth 5.5m; D 0.1m) runs along the N side. The interior is generally level and incorporated into the field as pasture. On a low hill in undulating lowland, sloping gently towards the River Ara which flows c. 140m to the N. Prior to the construction of a proposed solar farm, a geophysical survey identified a circular enclosure (Leigh 2016). This enclosure was confirmed by archaeological testing (Quinn 2016). The enclosure (diam. c. 42m) is defined by a fosse (Wth c. 3.2m) with gradually sloping sides (ibid., 26, 41). The geophysical results showed a break in the fosse in the SW quadrant, this was confirmed by excavation and suggests this was the location of the entrance (ibid., 26). The excavation also suggested that there may have been an enclosing bank which had been levelled (ibid., 31).
