Located on the summit of an E-W ridge in undulating terrain in an area of rock outcrop. A very denuded circular enclosure (diam. 39m N-S; 38m E-W) defined by a low bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.15m; ext. H 0.7m) with an outer fosse (Wth 1.75m) only evident at E. The NE quadrant has been quarried into leaving a deep depression. Not indicated on the 1st ed. (1840) OS 6-inch map. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). Situated on the summit of a small, natural hillock in rolling pastureland. The field has been reclaimed and the surrounding ground is very wet. An oval enclosure (diam. 28m NE-SW; 22m E-W) which has been badly damaged by quarrying in the N sector. The enclosing bank is only evident in the NE quadrant (Wth 1.7m; int. H 0.2m) - elsewhere it is reduced to a scarp (H 1.33m). Slight traces of an external fosse (Wth c. 2-3m) are visible at S. A N-S field boundary at the W side of the site may truncate it slightly. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). Situated in shallow dip in undulating terrain. Indicated as a sub-circular-shaped platform-type earthwork on the 1st ed. (1840) OS 6-inch map but as two adjacent quarries on the 1901-5 ed. Not visible at ground level. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Located on the N-facing slope of a ridge just below the summit in undulating pastureland. The site has been levelled but is still visible as a slight oval rise (dims. 40m N-S; 32m E-W). The fosse (Wth 1.4m) is evident at N as a slight dip with lusher, greener grass. There is a break (Wth 5.8m) in the fosse also at N. The interior undulates gently and some small incidents of quarrying have occurred. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). Located on the summit of a ridge which slopes to the SW with higher ground upslope to the N. Only very faint remains of this roughly circular enclosure (diam. 31.8m NE-SW; 18.5m NW-SE) are discernible. A stone wall oriented NE-SW transects the site, depicted on the 1901-5 ed. OS 6-inch map as a townland boundary with no remains visible to the NW. Not indicated on the 1st ed. (1840) OS 6-inch map. Located near the summit of a SE-facing slope in undulating pastureland. A roughly circular area (diam. 30m) very heavily overgrown with scrub, defined by a substantial earth and stone bank (Wth 2.4m; int. H 1m; ext. H 2.8m) and a deep, wide fosse (Wth 3m; D 1m). A gap (Wth 1.8m) at W appears to be cut through the bank and there is an entrance gap (Wth 2m) in the SE sector. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). This site consists of two areas. The western is a rock outcrop that appears to have been used for burning. However, the discolouration may be natural weathering and no significant archaeological remains are apparent. The eastern area has a small charcoal kiln or bowl furnace, possibly with associated stakeholes forming an oven-like structure. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien. Just below the summit of a hill, in upland terrain, the summit is to the E, under pasture with a lot of natural outcrop and boulders. There are turloughs at the base of the hill to the NW and SE. Low, drumlin-like hills. Views are limited to the NNE-E and NW-N, and are good to extensive from SSE-S-W. Borrisnoe Mountain visible to the SW and Black Hill visible to the ESE. A roughly circular enclosure (N-S 30m; E-W 32.4m), identified and reported by Anne-Karoline Distel on satellite imagery (DigitalGlobe; see also Google Earth, imagery date 18 January 2018). It is defined by a stone wall (H above ext. 28m; H above int. 0.26m; Wth 2.55-2.7m), only the foundations of which survive, particularly visible in SSE-W, otherwise the walling presents as a low grass-covered bank. The walling is composed of small boulders (vary in size from H 0.22m x Wth 0.52m to H 0.54m x Wth 0.78m). There is an entrance (Wth 2.8m) in the NE sector. Within the NW quadrant of the interior there is a slightly raised oval platform (dims. 10.4m N-S; 8m E-W; H above int. 0.17m), 3.8m from the inner edge of the enclosure’s wall. An old field boundary with ditch runs c. E-W along the N side, slightly truncating the outer edge of the enclosure. There are a number of boulders in the field, 15.8m to the E of the cashel and others immediately SW of it, these appear to be part of an old field boundary running ENE-WSW which may post-date the cashel and possibly utilised boulders from the cashel.
