Crossing the River Tar which flows roughly N-S at this point. There is no evidence of any physical structure. At the time of the inspection the river was c. 0.6m high at this point and flowing quite fast. On the break of a steep N-facing slope in forestry. In an area where mature forestry has been felled and new young conifers planted. The ground has been ploughed up by forestry trenches. The area is heavily overgrown with gorse, heather and ferns. A trackway runs E-W roughly where the enclosure is located. The enclosure was identified from an aerial photograph taken in May 1977 (GSI S. 723/4) and is not well defined on the photograph. There is no visible trace of this monument at ground level. On level ground on the E shoulder of Crohan hill in the Knockmealdown Mountains. Coniferous plantation c. 100-150m to the S and W and c. 250m to the N. Circular cairn (dims. 17.3m N-S; 17.5m E-W; max. H 2.05m) with an outer ring of stones which appears to be delimiting the cairn, with irregular heaps of medium sized boulders within. On the crest of Knockroe hill on the NE edge of the Knockmealdown Mountains within an area of coniferous forestry. Monument identified on OS Ortho 2005. The cairn is delineated by wooden posts and there is a buffer zone around the monument. There is a panoramic view from this cairn. A cairn (TS091-022----) at foot of Crohan hill is visible 900m to the SW. This is a denuded circular cairn (diam. 15.5m; H 1.2m) composed of old red Devonian sandstone stones. In the S quadrant some stones have been heaped up the form a small pile (diam. c. 1m; H 1.4m above the cairn). - Liam Lynch Memorial, monument, 1930–1940, Regional interest, registry number 22209101, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=TS&regno=22209101. Freestanding memorial to Liam Lynch (1893-1923), erected 1935, in form of a round tower. Tapering rubble sandstone walling, set on base with four bronze wolfhounds set on limestone slabs on rubble sandstone pedestals around it at remove. Corbelled conical stone roof with projecting dressed stone eaves course, and cut stone cross finial. Triangular-headed openings near top, with timber fittings and rubble sandstone block-and-start surrounds and sills. Round-headed carved limestone plaque in blind doorway, with rubble sandstone voussoirs and sill. Square carved limestone plaque to base inserted 1973. Rubble sandstone lectern with limestone slab top and podium to site. Two humpback bridges with continuous rubble sandstone parapet walls to access.
