Large, double ended (dumbbell-shaped) stone-lined, corn-drying kiln. Probable firebox(es) located in the central flue. Approx 6m long with drying chambers c.0.50m wide inside the lining. Layers of burning and ash deposits inside the flue. Whole remaining structure is sub-surface and appears to represent the underfloor flues rather than actual firebox and chambers. This is quite sophisticated and resembles the dryer at Killeisk. Probably later Early Medieval - Medieval. Nearby were a few pits and postholes that represent occupation of unknown date. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien. Date of upload: 22 September 2008 - TN021-106: Cremation pit, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CTN021-106----. 11 pits in a cluster of which 9 appear to be for cremation or cooking - probably Bronze Age. Lots of cremated bone. One saucer shaped pit appears to have stakes in it as if was a charcoal kiln. No pottery or other significant finds. Around 20 cremations in small, unlined pits. Each one is clearly visible with a dark, charcoal rich fill and occasional burnt bone. No great quantities of burnt bone have been found. One pit contains the remains of a complete pot (top truncated by ploughing). Occasional large, sunken hearth-ovens. Many blobs of whitish silts proved to be natural upwelling of water that had leeched the natural (silty-sand) geological drift. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien. Date of upload: 22 September 2008 - TN021-106001: House - prehistoric, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CTN021-106001-. Two to three or more posthole houses, possibly three conjoined structures, of probable prehistoric (perhaps Neolithic) date. One is certain with a possible door threshold and contains a hearth with associated stakeholes. Buildings appear to be circular 6m - 8m diameter of postholes with a central post and oven-like features. No pottery or other significant finds. Dispersed pitting and investigation of pale, leeched areas of subsoil that were concluded to be natural staining produced by upwelling water - natural, presumably dating to the immediately post-glacial period.
