- TS048-033: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CTS048-033----. In improved re-seeded pasture, on a level area, just above a WNW-facing slope. A circular area (dims. c. 21m N-S; c. 22m E-W) defined by the levelled remains of a bank (Wth 16.75m; int. H 0.13m; ext. H 0.46m) best preserved from W-N-E yet traceable WSW-W, a fosse (overall Wth c. 7m; D 0.1m) best preserved in the SW quadrant and traces of an outer bank (Wth 13m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.15m) visible from SW-N-NE and from SE-S-SW. A field boundary (long-axis NW-SE), now removed, may have truncated the outer elements of the monument across the NE sector. In grassland on top of a low rise of ground at the foothills of the Slieveardagh hills with good views in all directions. A poorly preserved ringfort, the interior of which has been quarried (Wth 7m; 25m L) into at the N and NW quadrants. Originally the monument consisted of a circular area (int. diam. 32m NE-SW) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (base Wth 5m; top Wth 2m; ext. H 1m ; int. H 0.4m) and external fosse (base Wth 1m; top Wth 2m;ext. D 0.2m) with a possible outer bank only visible at the NW. The enclosing bank of earth and stone is best preserved at the E and SW, elsewhere it has been reduced to a scarp. A large gap (Wth 7m) in the bank at the N which may be the remains of old quarrying. In the NW quadrant the enclosing fosse and bank is covered in field clearance debris. A lot of small stones are visible in the bank construction. On top of a low hillock in an undulating field of wheat at the foothills of the Slieveardagh hills with good views in all directions. A possible ringfort (TS048-036----) lies 320m to the WSW. In grassland on a low rise of ground with good views in all directions, Derryvella bog to W and Slieveardagh hills to SE. The 19th-century ruins of farmhouse and farmyard indicated on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map as 'The Demesne' are located immediately E of the church. The church is located on a long rectangular platform which may represent the remains of the graveyard (TS048-038001-). Several stones protruding from the surface of the rectangular platform may be the remains of the levelled church. The field to the S of the church appears to have been drained or reclaimed in the 19th century, with evidence of small drainage systems in this field, suggesting that the land surrounding the church may have been wet and marshy when the church was in use. The 19th century ruins of a farmhouse and farmyard are indicated on the 2nd (1905) ed. OS 6-inch map as 'The Demesne', located immediately E of the church (TS048-038----). The church is located on a long rectangular platform (dims. 40m NE-SW; 60m NW-SE) which may represent the remains of the graveyard. The platform is defined by a scarp (H 1-1.3m) and external fosse (base Wth 3m; top Wth 6m; ext. D 0.3m), with slight evidence of an outer bank (base Wth 8m; top Wth 4m; ext. H 0.3m) at the W only. A field boundary bisects the platform on a NW-SE axis. The field to the S of the church appears to have been drained or reclaimed in the 19th century, with evidence of small drainage systems in this field, suggesting that the land surrounding the church may have been wet and marshy when the church was in use. On flat grassland at the base of the Slieveardagh hills with good views from S through W to N and higher ground to E. A ringfort (TS048-039----) lies 300m to the NE. The ringfort consists of a raised circular platform (int. diam. 21m N-S; overall diam. c. 27m N-S and 24m E-W) defined by an earth and stone bank (top Wth 1.5m; base Wth 5m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.8-1.5m) reduced to a scarp at the N and destroyed by roadway from NE through E to S. The enclosing bank is best preserved from S through W to NW, elsewhere the bank is levelled. In flat grassland, atop a low rise of ground at the foothills of the Slieveardagh Hills with good views in all directions. The monument consists of a square-shaped area (approx. int. dims. 40m NW-SE; 38m NE-SW) enclosed by a substantial earth and stone bank (top Wth 1.4m; base Wth 4m; int. H 0.3- 0.7m; ext. H 2m) and wide, flat-bottomed external fosse (base Wth 1.5-2.5m; top Wth 4m; ext. D 1-1.5m). There are cattle gaps in the bank at the N and W. The bank and fosse are well preserved along the NE side.
