A raised circular area (diam. 41m E-W) defined by a scarp (H 1.5m) which is intersected at E by a modern field fence. No fosse or entrance feature visible. Situated on a low rise of natural rock outcrop in flat pasture. A raised circular area (diam. 32m E-W) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (Wth 1.6m; int. H 0.2-0.4m; ext. H 1.2m) mainly reduced to a scarp with a possible destroyed entrance at W. The S sector of the interior and the bank have been destroyed by uprooted trees. Situated on high ground in undulating countryside with a fortified house (TN035-030----) to the NW. Cited as a Purcell castle in the OS Letters where it is described as the 'old Castle of Cloghleigh' (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 181). Depicted as a rectangular structure with its long axis aligned N-S on the 1838 ed. OS 6-inch map. On the revised OS 6-inch map only the N wall and N section of the W wall and N return of the NE angle of the castle walls were depicted. No visible remains at ground level. H 0.5m) and outer fosse (Wth 1.6m; D 0.2m) with no entrance feature visible. A laneway intersects the fosse at SE as indicated on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map. ## Architectural heritage (National Inventory of Architectural Heritage)

- Mill (water), 1780–1820, Regional interest, registry number 22310008, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=TN&regno=22310008. Five-bay five-storey former timber and corn mill, built c.1800, now disused. Half-hipped slate roof to mill. Snecked rubble limestone walls. Square-headed openings with cut stone sills to windows. Millrace runs through west end of building, with arches in north and south elevations. Two-bay two-storey former manager's house attached to east with six-bay two-storey late twentieth-century gable-fronted extension with attic storey. Pitched reslated roof, random coursed dressed limestone walls. Square-headed windows and door, with later dormer windows, having two-over-two pane timber sash windows to house. Two-bay lodge with one-bay outbuilding attached at entrance with pitched slate and tile roof, rubble limestone walls and square-headed openings.
