In pasture, on a S-facing slope. Roughly circular area (diam. 35m) defined by scarp (Wth 3m; H 1.2m) SE-S-WSW and bank (int. H 1.2m; ext. H 0.7m; Wth 7.4m) WSW-N. Internal scarp (int. Wth 4.5m; int. H 1.1m) exists where bank truncated on exterior by laneway N-SE. Bank breached (Wth 2.2m) at WSW and eroded at SW. Interior slopes down relatively steeply to S with prevalent slope; uneven surface and stones evident. Remains of external fosse at SW only, noted under heavy growth. On the S end of a broad ridge which slopes steeply to the S beyond the graveyard to a small river valley running roughly E-W. In rushy terrain, rough grazing. The church (dims. 7m N-S; 15.9m E-W; wall T 0.9m) is on a rise in the southern part of the graveyard (TS071-019001-) which originally extended further northward. Aligned E-W, it is constructed of sandstone rubble, roughly coursed. Only the E gable (H 5-5.5m) stands to any height. It is heavily ivy clad, though there is a clear area in the interior where a section of wall has been rebuilt with well coursed sandstone blocks. All the remaining walls are visible as low collapsed wall (H 0.7-2m) with only the SE angle being quite well preserved, but this is obscured by ivy. The line of the S wall is largely composed of rubble. There is a gap (Wth 2.5m) mid-way along the N wall which probably indicates the position of the original doorway. There appears to be an external buttress (H c. 2m; Wth 0.65m) at the S end of the E gable. A sandstone shrine has recently been built onto the W end of the N wall. According to the OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 57-8) the 'west gable and north wall are nearly destroyed but the south wall and east gable are in tolerable preservation. The east gable contains a small window placed at the unusual height of fifteen feet [4.5m] from the ground and measuring on the inside, where it is quadrangular, about five feet [1.5m] and three feet [0.9m] in width; on the outside it is constructed of cut limestone pointed at top and measures about three feet [0.9m] in height and not more than six inches [0.15m] in width'. A graveslab (TS071-019002-) possibly of 16th or early 17th-century date was noted within the SE quadrant of the church in the OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 58). On the S end of a broad ridge which slopes steeply to the S beyond the graveyard to a small river valley running roughly E-W. In rushy terrain, rough grazing. The graveyard was originally sub-rectangular in shape (dims. 67m NE-SW; c. 30m NW-SE), defined by an earthen bank (Wth at top 1.6m; Wth at base 4.5m; int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.3m) with the church (TS071-019----) occupying a raised area at the southern end. In the 19th century the southern part of the graveyard was enclosed by a stone wall, encompassing the earlier SW boundary which is evident as a scarp running NE-SW within the W wall. The 19th-century enclosure forms a roughly triangular shape (dims. 33m N-S; 49m E-W) with an entrance at the S of the W wall. There are several 18th century headstones within the church interior, the earliest dating to 1722. The vast majority of headstones in the graveyard are 19th century in date, with only one 20th century headstone, however, there are no headstones in the E end of the graveyard. A 17th-century graveslab within the church (TS071-019----) of Grangemockler. According to the OS letters 'Inside this Church, at the southeast corner, there is a small gravestone now much mutilated marking the burial place of a gentleman of the name Shea, and his wife (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 58 (157)). The inscription begins:- Hic jacet Joannes Shea Generosus et uxor eius Elisia'. It is possibly the same graveslab as that from which a rubbing was taken (FitzGerald 1913-1019, vol. 9, 358) and of which the upper and lower portions of the slab were missing. The inscription, which 'ran lenghways on the slab parallel to the shaft of the cross; what is deciperable runs thus:- .....LA GENEROSVS / ..... VXOR EIVS E / ........... ORETVR PRO EIS / 16.. (Stem of a Cross) [QVISQVIS] ERIS QVI TRANSIEHIS, STA / [PERLEGE,] PLORA. SVM QVOD ERIS, / [FVERAMQVE QVOD ES], PRO ME PRECOR, ORA. (Traces of letters) ..... PVERAq QVO' (ibid.). The inscription is accompanied by three shields with coat-of-arms, the lowest of which appears to bear a chevron between three pheons, points upwards (ibid.). Interior slopes down relatively sharply to S; remains of rectangular building (TS071-040001-) within. Various large rocks and boulders within and around monument. Detached gable-fronted cruciform-plan church, built c. 1880, with three-bay nave, single-bay transepts and chancel, with four-bay sacristy addition to east. Pitched slate roof with carved limestone bellcote with limestone cross finial to gable front and carved limestone finial to east gable. Hipped slate roof to sacristy with rendered chimneystack. Roughcast rendered walls with render quoins and plinth course. Round-headed openings with rendered surrounds having stained glass windows, triple-light to chancel gable. Square-headed margined one-over-one pane timber sliding sash, round-headed stained-glass and replacement windows and doors to sacristy. Round-headed opening to gable front with chamfered carved limestone block-and-start surround with hood-moulding and having timber battened double-doors with strap hinges. Round-headed openings with chamfered surrounds and hood-mouldings to east walls of transepts having timber battened doors and with round stained glass windows in walls above. Timber braced scissors truss roof support to interior with steel tension bars. Two-bay round-arched arcades to transepts having marble columns with limestone capitals. Gothic Revival sculpted marble reredos to altar. Timber internal porch with quarry-glazed windows. Graveyard to site. Crenellated limestone boundary walls to site having dressed limestone gate piers with carved caps and decorative cast-iron double-leaf gates, with carved date stone 1805 from earlier church and plaque to Michael Hogan who was shot in 1920 at Croke Park.

Detached three-bay two-storey over half-basement house, built c. 1880, with extension to rear having catslide roof and gable-fronted porch to front. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystacks, cast-iron rainwater goods, with artificial slate roof to rear and having decoratively-carved bargeboards to porch. Ruled-and-lined rendered walls with rendered and pebbledashed quoin bands. Square-headed window openings with six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows to front, replacement uPVC elsewhere, with limestone sills and having render keystones to window heads of front elevation. Square-headed door openings in side walls of porch having timber battened doors and limestone steps. Outbuilding to rear with pitched slate roof, rubble sandstone walls and square-headed doorways and round-arched carriage entrance, all with brick surrounds. Freestanding cast-iron water pump to yard. Wrought-iron gate and railings set to rendered piers and rendered plinth walls to front of site.
