Situated on rock outcrop with an enclosure site (TN035-070----) to the N. A well-preserved four-storey tower house (ext. dims. 12.08m NW-SE; 9.66m NE-SW; wall T 2.4m) built with roughly coursed limestone rubble and alternating hammer dressed quoins with slight base-batter. The main entrance, consisting of a two-centred chamfered and rebated doorway in the NW wall, gives access to a lobby protected by an overhead murder-hole and a cross-loop in the SE wall. There is a guardroom in the W angle off the lobby and to the N of the lobby is an antechamber from which the spiral stair in the N angle and the ground-floor chamber is reached. The ground floor is lit by a single-light elliptical-headed window in the SE wall with twin-light elliptical windows set into segmental-arched embrasures with wicker centring in the SW and NE walls. Wooden floors were carried on joists supported on a wall-plate carried on corbels on all levels except the third floor which rests on top of the barrel vault over the second floor. Fenestration consists of single and twin-light elliptical-headed windows and twin-light ogee-headed windows. At first-floor level there is a flat-headed fireplace with joggled voussoirs on the SW wall and a garderobe in the E angle accessed off the E splay of a window embrasure in the NE wall. The murder-hole is accessed from a first-floor chamber while smaller rooms over the lobby orientated on a NE-SW axis are accessed off the spiral stairs. A mural passage in the NE wall leads to a garderobe in the E angle at third-floor level accessed off the spiral stairs. The third floor has been greatly modified in the nineteenth century as evidenced by bricked-up opes and brick-arched windows. The wall-walk is reached from mural stairs in the NW wall which are accessed off the N splay of a window embrasure in the NW wall. There is a secret mural chamber in the NE wall at the N end at third-floor level. Also at third floor level is a blocked-up keyhole gun loop in the SE wall. A garderobe chute exits at the base of the SE wall off-centre to the E. A combination of stone dressing, consisting of fine pecking with drafted margins, together with architectural features suggest a late sixteenth/early seventeenth-century date for this tower house. Situated on a low N-S ridge in undulating countryside with good views to the S. A circular area (diam. 32m E-W) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (Wth 2.5m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1-1.5m) and an outer fosse (Wth 2.3m; D 0.6m) best preserved at NW. No clear entrance feature visible. Evidence of mortared wall-footings protrudes from the top of the bank at NE. ## Architectural heritage (National Inventory of Architectural Heritage)

- Saint Michael's, church/chapel, 1820–1840, Regional interest, registry number 22403504, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=TN&regno=22403504. Freestanding Church of Ireland church, built c.1830, with three-bay nave, chancel to east, and having entrance porches, gabled to southwest and lean-to to northeast corners. Now in use as house. Replacement pitched artificial slate roof having limestone eaves course, dormer windows and rendered chimney additions and with bellcote to west gable. Snecked roughly-dressed limestone walls with dressed limestone base batter, quoins, copings, dressings to bellcote and chamfered surrounds to openings. Lancet windows, tripled to gables with quatrefoil light over west and cinquefoil over east, double-lights to nave with cast-iron lattice glazing. Pointed-arch opening to south porch, having timber battened door with strap hinges and shouldered-arch opening with replacement door to north, both with limestone steps. Recent doorway inserted in west gable. Graveyard to site. Dressed limestone gate piers with cast-iron railings to front rubble limestone boundary.
- Killahara House, house, 1870–1910, Regional interest, registry number 22403507, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=TN&regno=22403507. Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1890, with recent hipped extension to west and uPVC conservatory to front. Hipped artificial slate roof with dressed limestone chimneystacks and with gablet and plat-bands to west elevation. Roughcast rendered walls with render quoins and plinth. Square-headed openings with six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows and limestone sills. Doorway obscured by recent uPVC conservatory. Rubble limestone boundary walls and cast-iron piers and gates to site.
- Water pump, 1850–1890, Regional interest, registry number 22403508, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=TN&regno=22403508. Cast-iron water pump, c.1870, with banded cylindrical shaft, fluted neck, fluted spout with ram's head bucket grip, fluted cap with pointed finial and cow's tail pumping handle. Set in rubble limestone walled enclosure.
- School, 1860–1900, Regional interest, registry number 22403509, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=TN&regno=22403509. Detached two-bay two-storey school house, built c.1880, with lean-to three-bay single-storey porch to north elevation. Now in use as private house. Pitched slate roofs having brick chimneystacks and rooflight. Rendered walls with limestone plaque over doorway. Square-headed openings with timber sliding sash windows, six-over-six pane to first floor and two-over-two to addition, with tripartite casements to southeast and northeast elevations, with stone sills. Timber battened door. Dressed limestone piers and rubble limestone boundary walls to site with wrought-iron gate.
