On a gentle S-facing slope at the foot of Slievenamon. It is presently in the SE corner of the front garden of a house, near the driveway. This church is described in the OS Letters as 'an old Church in the Townland of Killurney in this Parish which gave name to the townland. The name is pronounced in Irish Cill Urnaighe, that is, the Church of Prayer, Cella Orationis. It stood where this is now an orchard belonging to Thomas Donnell, farmer. There is no trace of the Church now remaining but a portion of a wall which appears to be a part of the west gable....the whole remnant has been repaired wheresoever it was necessary for preserving it in the orchard as a “curiosity”' (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 2, 148-9). This wall still survives (L 4.08m; max. H 3.5m; Wth 0.9m) with an ext. base-batter (H 1.05m; Wth 0.3m). It is constructed of red sandstone rubble with some large boulders used which have quartz inclusions. These large boulders are concentrated above the base-batter in the W face. No architectural features survive. According to local tradition there was a graveyard associated with this church which is located in the adjacent field to the S and in very dry weather traces of the former burial plots become visible. On break of S-facing slope under pasture in hilly upland terrain at S base of Slievenamon. Depicted as an oval enclosure on 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map. Monument has been truncated by NW-SE property boundary of a house and garden built c. 1980s. Ground level N of this boundary has been raised to provide a level platform for the house and garden which extends to NW. S of property boundary the remains of a oval enclosure (dims. 21.5m NW-SE; 6.3m NE-SW) are visible, consisting of a low curving bank (Wth c. 4m; H above int. 0.05m; H above fosse 0.55m) with external fosse (Wth 2m) and suggestion of an outer bank (Wth 5.5m crest, 8m base; H above fosse 0.23m; H above ext. 0.52), though this is quite irregular. On S slope of Slievenamon in rough scrub covered with ferns, brambles and holly. Enclosure is very overgrown as is immediate surrounding area. New dormer bungalow has been built parallel with the enclosure c. 75m to W. Interior slopes to S. Outline of monument difficult to determine due to overgrowth (dims. 25m N-S; 28m E-W based on 25-inch OS map). Bank is relatively clear in SW quadrant (Wth 2.1m crest, 4.5m base; H above int. 0.66m; H above ext. 1.9m). It is of earthen construction with a lot of stones protruding from the top and external face. Downslope the bank falls sharply to exterior utilising the natural slope. Bank has been badly disturbed by burrowing, probably by badgers. Field boundary runs NW-SE along N side of the enclosure.
