Only a slight rise of ground indicates location of enclosure in field of corn, no other features visible no enclosing element visible. Monument depicted as a circular enclosure (approx. diam. 36m) on OS 6-inch map bisected by a townland boundary on a NW-SE. Field in corn to E of townland boundary and coniferous plantation in adjoining field to W of townland boundary. In grassland on flat pasture in upland region with good views from E through S to W, higher ground to NE. Ringfort consists of a slightly raised circular area (int. diam. 22m NE-SW; 30m NW-SE) enclosed by a low broad much degraded bank (Wth 5m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 1.2m) and well-preserved wide flat-bottomed fosse (base Wth 1-1.5m; top Wth 3.5m; ext. D 1.2m). The sharp profile of the sides of the enclosing fosse and flat bottomed suggests that this fosse may have been re-shaped by the occupants of Curragh House located c. 200m SW of the monument. Bank, fosse and interior preserved intact from SE through S to W to NW only. Cattle gaps in bank at NW (Wth 2m) and SE (Wth 4m). Evidence of hazel coppicing around perimeter of monument possibly dating from the 19th century. Road intersects NE quadrant of interior and enclosing feature on a NW-SE axis. No evidence of the monument on the NE side of the modern road. Wth 2m) in bank at S and N and at W and E angles where some cattle poaching has occurred. The moat has been filled in along the S and W sides and is best preserved from NW through N to E where it survives as a wide flat-bottomed waterfilled moat. No clear entrance feature visible. Slightly raised interior. Field boundary intersects E angle of moat as depicted on 1903 ed. OS 6-inch map. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011 - TS054-050004: Well, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CTS054-050004-. At the S end of a large gently sloping meadow formerly accessible via a narrow trackway running east from Bailey Street on the N side of the town. The trackway is now barely discernible. The name Toberavoher obviously derives from the Irish - Tobar an bhothair 'well of the road'. Despite this appellation there is no tradition of any religious pilgrimage to the well or any historical references to suggest its antiquity or otherwise. Toberavoher lies on the N side of a choked stream with a second well now covered adjoining it on the S side. They are separated from each other by a drystone wall running E-W. Access from one to the other is via a narrow stile. Toberavoher was heavily overgrown with hawthorn and briars on the date visited. It is a small rectangular well (D 0.58m) enclosed on its N and S sides by drystone limestone walling and capped with a large flagstone lintel (H above well 1m; T 0.08cm). The well opening (Wth 0.9m) is on the W side and is accessed via a single step leading down from the S side. There is insufficient evidence to warrant its inclusion in the RMP as it is likely to be post-1700 AD in date. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011 - TS054-050005: Well, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CTS054-050005-. Within the E bank of a fast-moving stream and 50m NW of a motte and bailey (TS054-050003-). It is almost totally obscured by hawthorn, elderberry and ivy which over-hangs it. There is no historical or cartographic evidence to suggest that this well is of any antiquity. Its close proximity to a motte and bailey, however, may indicate an association between the two. Alternatively it may be a late landscape feature of the Waldron Estate, created along with the osiery and summer house which, unlike the well, are marked on the 1st (1840) ed. 6-inch OS map. The well, which is not named, is in a very ruinous condition. It comprises a gentle spring partially covered with limestone dry-stone walling. The mouth of the well is 50cm x 75cm. Two large regular-shaped stones lying nearby in the stream may have functioned as lintels at the head of the well. There are no deposits to indicate any religious activity, it was clearly for domestic use. Three large pieces of a lugged iron skillet were found within the spring well. There is insufficient evidence to warrant its inclusion in the RMP as it is likely to be post-1700 AD in date. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
