Situated on the steep S-facing slope of a hill, formerly tilled, now under pasture. The landowner recalls an irregular hummocky enclosure (approx. diam. 23m N-S) defined by an earthen bank and shallow fosse. It was levelled c. 1978. Not visible at ground level. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). Situated in undulating pasture, sloping slightly to the NW. A roughly circular area (diam. 52.3m N-S; 45.7m E-W) enclosed by a low denuded earthen bank (Wth 7.9m; int. H 0.47m; ext. H 0.7m) with a possible entrance to the E. The interior slopes gently to the NE. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Situated on a rise in gently undulating pastureland c. 120m S of the Ollatrim River with a hall house (TN021-030001-) 114m to the NNE. Listed in the ecclesiastical taxation of the Diocese of Killaloe in 1302 (Cal. doc. Ire., 302). The Royal Visitation of 1615 described the rectory of Lisbunny 'as church and chancell down' (Murphy 1914, 219). Present remains consist of the poorly preserved ruins of a nave (dims. 9.2m N-S; 18.2m E-W) and chancel (dims. 7.4m N-S; 8.9m E-W) church at the N end of a graveyard (TN021-029002-), with partial remains of the wall containing the destroyed chancel arch visible. The S wall of the nave is destroyed. The window in the E gable and all the windows in the chancel are broken out. The E window was set into a round arched embrasure of sandstone and limestone surround. A concrete wall monument abuts the external face of the N wall at the E end and there is concrete rendering on the external N face of the nave. A flat headed niche is visible at the E end of the S wall of the chancel. Situated on a rise in gently undulating pastureland c. 100m S of the Ollatrim River with a nearby hall house (TN021-030001) to the N. Listed in the ecclesiastical taxation of the Diocese of Killaloe in 1302 (CDI, vol. 5, 302). The Royal Visitation of 1615 described the rectory of Lisbunny 'as church and chancell down' (Murphy 1914, 219). A nave and chancel (TN021-029001) church at the N end of a graveyard, with a dividing wall only partly surviving. The S wall of the nave is destroyed. A large light in the E gable and all the windows in the chancel are broken out. A concrete wall monument abuts the N wall at the E end and there is concrete rendering on the external N face of the nave. Ivy obscures much of the surviving walls.A niche for a piscina lies in the S wall of the chancel. Situated close to the Ollatrim River, on a gentle NE-facing slope in pasture with a nearby church (TN021-029) to the S. Described in the Civil Survey 1654-6 as a 'ruined castle a Church the Walls onely standing, one Orchard, a Mill & a Rivolett running through the said land & six cabbins' (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 257). A hall-keep of late thirteenth or early fourteenth-century date with alterations in the late sixteenth/early seventeenth century. The building is rectangular and roughly coursed (dims. 11.75m N-S; 16.8m E-W. wall T 2.1m), two storeys high with an external base-batter (H 1.4m; T 0.35m). The original entrance at first-floor level at the S end of the E wall consists of a slightly pointed segmental arch in a deep, pointed embrasure. There is a recess for a spiral staircase, possibly of wooden construction, in the SE angle which gave access to the ground and upper floor or wall-walk level. All floors were carried on large wooden beams set into the thickness of the wall which spanned the width of the hall. A large opening broken through the E wall at ground-floor level may have been the position of an original window similar to the flat-headed single-light windows in the N, S and W walls. The first-floor level has large window embrasures on all sides. A recess towards the centre of the N wall indicates the location of a later fireplace with the flue blocking an earlier flat-headed single-light window with sandstone surrounds, chamfered externally. A hanging-eye decorated in a late sixteenth-century manner indicates a doorway leading to the first floor. The stairs continues above the hall probably giving access to the destroyed wall-walk level. H 0.64m) largely reduced to a scarp, a shallow fosse (Wth 7.2m; D 0.39m) and a flattened outer bank (Wth 8.9m). Field boundaries intersect with the N and E edges of the site. Situated in a flat river valley with land rising to the N and S. A mill is depicted on the Down Survey map as being on the S bank of a millrace, immediately N of the Ollatrim River. Lisbunny hall-house (TN021-030001) lies c. 180m S of the Ollatrim River. There is no visible trace of the mill, however, the millrace (Wth 4m; D 1m) is still intact. Uncut stone and boulders protrude along the S bank of the millrace, which, as depicted on the OS 6-inch map, meanders at the head and straightens out towards the tail. The mill is also mentioned in the Civil Survey as 'a mill and a rivolett running through the sd lands and 6 cabins' (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 257).
