On a N-facing slope, just below the crest of a ridge, in rolling terrain. Enclosure depicted on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map as a roughly oval area (dims. c. 31m NE-SW; c. 25m NW-SE) which tapers towards the SW (dims. c. 15m NW-SE). The enclosure is not indicated on the 1904-05 ed. 6-inch OS map. There is now a small disused quarry, overgrown with brambles and white thorn, at the location. The cartographic evidence suggests that the monument was levelled, however, it is possible that a cartographic error was made on the 1st ed. map and that a quarry should have been depicted instead of an enclosure. A quarry now occupies the area of the possible enclosure. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 21 January 2013 - TS082-017: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CTS082-017----. On a S-facing slope, just below the crest of a hill, in genly undulating terrain. The field has been tilled up to the bank of the monument. A townland boundary to the N has been removed, as has the field boundary to the E. Nicholastown Castle (TS082-043002-) is visible c. 1.3km to SE. Loughlohery tower house (TS082-004----) is also visible 2km to the WNW. The ringfort has been much distrubed and is overgrown with brambles, nettles and scrub, only the SW quadrant is relatively free of vegetation. The ringfort is roughly circular (diam. 39m E-W; N-S c. 30m diam. obtainable from 25-inch OS map as too overgrown on the ground). The interior adjacent to the E bank has been quarried out and a lot of debris, including dead wood, dumped. The E bank is very broad and high (Wth c. 7m; int. H 1.72m; ext. H 1.65m), probably augmented by field boundary clearance. Elsewhere there is no definable bank, the edge of the monument being delimited by scarp, in the W quadrant this is 0.45m above the ext. ground level, in SW it is 1m above the exterior. There is no external fosse visible, however a fosse is indicated on the 2nd 1904-5 ed. OS 6-inch map from NE to SW. In the SE quadrant stones have been dumped at the external base of the bank. The external face of the bank has been truncated. The interior slopes to the E. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 21 January 2014 - TS082-034: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CTS082-034----. Just of the crest of a hill on a S-facing slope in undulating pasture. D-shaped ringfort (diam. 36m N-S; 42m E-W), the N side may have been straightened to form the present field boundary. This N bank is very overgrown with scrub and nettles. The bank (Wth 1.6m crest, 3.7m base; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.4m) reduces in height downslope in the S quadrant. There are a lot of stones visible in the bank in the SE quadrant. Cattle poaching has denuded the grass cover on the banks and the interior is badly cattle poached. There is white thorn growing around the bank and a large mature beech in the centre of the interior. There is no evidence of an external fosse on N, E and W sectors, however, there is a very shallow, possible fosse (Wth 3-4m; D 0.1m) in the S quadrant. A gap in the bank in the E quadrant is caused by cattle. In the S quadrant a gap (Wth 3.6m) used by cattle may be the original entrance. On relatively flat terrain, sloping generally to the SSW. There is no visible trace of the enclosure above ground. It is marked as a sub-rectangular area on the 1st (1840) OS 6-inch map, with the road forming the N boundary and a field boundary forming the W side. By the 2nd 1904-5 ed. the enclosure is not indicated. The area is now a small paddock with wooden fencing, adjacent to a new bungalow built immediately E of the enclosure. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 03 February 2014 - TS082-036: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CTS082-036----. Just off the crest of a hill on an E-facing slope in lush pastureland, in gently undulating terrain. There is no visible trace of the enclosure above ground. The enclosure is marked on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map as a circular area with a townland boundary running immediately S of the S, a quarry to the W of the enclosure and a field boundary some c. 16m to the E, this latter has been removed. The enclosure is not indicated on the 1904-05 OS 6-inch map. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 03 February 2014 - TS082-037: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CTS082-037----. On a N-facing slope of the crest of a hill in undulating terrain. Field tilled and planted with beet. Enclosure levelled though a slight rise in the field may indicate the former presence of the monument. It is not marked on the 1st 1840 ed. OS 6-inch map and is indicated on the 2nd 1904-5 ed. as 'Lisnamuck (Site of)'. On an aerial photograph (GB90.AA.03, 16 July 1989) it is visible as the cropmark of a curvilinear enclosure defined by a fosse, with a narrower concentric outer fosse. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011 - TS082-038: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CTS082-038----. In gently undulating terrain, generally sloping to the SSW, in tilled field. Nicholastown Castle (TS082-043----) visible to NE. No visible trace of site above ground. The site is depicted as a circular area on the 1st 1843 ed. OS 6-inch map with a field boundary running NW-SE along the W quadrant. On the latest ed. the site is depicted as a roughly square area, the N and W sides have a heavier outline, possibly indicating that this was a pond.
