Low profile, sub-oval area (dims. 28m N-S; 35m E-W to field boundary) is defined by levelled scarp (Wth 1.6m; H 0.1m) SSE-W-NNE and a possible fosse (Wth 6.15m; D 0.3m) SSE-SW. Scarp (Wth 2.6m; H 0.25m) is best preserved WNW-NNW. Monument truncated by farm trackway (Wth 3.5m; long-axis NNW-SSE), field boundary and stream respectively, across E-sector. Dry water channel (long axis c. NNW-SSE) extends to NNW from fosse at SW. Interior grass covered and has a NNW-facing slope. In rough, ungrazed pasture in area of disused quarry. Depicted on the first 1840 edition OS 6-inch map as an irregular enclosure with a linear field boundary extending from the NW and SE-sides. On the 2nd 1904 ed. a curving bank is depicted (chord c. 40m) immediately E of a quarry face, which appears to be upcast from the quarry. According to local information, this has always been in use as a quarry. A possible ringfort (TS066-135----) lies c. 100m to the ENE. In pasture, on a level area of a steep N-facing slope with panoramic views WSW-N-ENE. Circular area (diam. 24m) defined by bank (Wth 5.5m; int. H 0.85m; ext. H 1.1m), broad, flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 4.3m; D 0.65m) from NNE-S-NW, a berm (Wth 6-10.5m), an outer bank (Wth 5.25m; int. H 0.7-1m; ext. H 0.9-2m) and an outer fosse (Wth 4.85-6.25; D 0.2-0.25m). The inner bank has been reduced to scarp (Wth 2.75m; H 0.8m) SSE-SSW and NW-N and has a possible entrance (Wth 3m) at N and a gap (Wth 1.5m) is at E. The inner fosse is slightly backfilled SSE-SSW. The berm is widest at S and is densely overgrown.The outer bank has an entrance (basal Wth 2m; overall Wth 5m) at N, with gaps (Wth 1.5-3m) at E, ESE, NE due to livestock and gaps (Wth 1.75m) at NW and at SW (Wth 1m) due to drainage. A field boundary (long axis E-W) goes across the outer fosse at ESE to abut the outer bank. Stream that flows on S-side of this field boundary joins fosse SE-SSW and continues along field boundary (long axis ENE-WSW) on W-side of monument. Dry drain (long axis NW-SE) extends from the outer fosse at NW. Interior has a slight N-facing slope and is becoming overgrown with briars especially in NE-quadrant. A possible annexe (dims. 22m NNW-SSE; 15m ENE-WSW) adjoins the outer fosse at NE and is defined by a bank (Wth 3.95m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.55m) at N, E and S-sides and a fosse (Wth 3.95m; D 0.5m) on S-side. Interior of annexe is grass covered and deeply poached by cattle. Small coppice (dims. 32m c. N-S; 28m c. E-W) of coniferous trees abutting monument S-SSW. H 1.5m), best preserved ESE-S, and an external fosse (overall Wth 5.5m; basal Wth 2.6m; D 0.75m) SSE-WSW. Bank (Wth 2.5m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1m) is lower WNW-E & SW and is reduced to scarp (Wth 3.2m; H 0.65m) S-SW and W. Possible entrance (Wth 2.5m) at E, with gap (Wth 1.5m) at NNW probably due to erosion by livestock and a gap (Wth 1m) is at WSW. Fosse has been truncated on the exterior SSE-SSW by a drain and trackway (long-axis ENE-WSW). Interior is generally level. Interior has a gentle NE-facing slope and is slightly uneven. Drain (long-axis SW-NE) truncates monument to SE. Two mounds (L c. 3m; Wth 3.1m; H 0.15m) to immediate NE may be associated. On the summit of Shrough Hill, part of the Slievenamuck/Moanour mountains, with forestry encroaching to within 10m to N, E and W, forestry to W has been felled affording an extensive view of the Galty mountains and foothills below. A cairn, possibly a passage tomb (LI058-001----), is visible on Temple Hill c. 9km to the SSE, at the W end of the Galtys. A stone wall runs E-W along the S edge of the mound. The monument consists of a roughly circular cairn (diam. 30m; H 2m) with a small, roofless polyogonal chamber (int. dims. L 2.2m; Wth 1.2m), aligned roughly E-W, near the centre of the cairn (De Valera and Ó Nualláin 1982, 101; Ó Nualláin and Cody 1987, 76-8). The sidestones vary in height from 1.2m to 1.8m (ibid. 76). The cairn is overgrown with gorse, heather and low scrub.
