According to Power (1907, 298) 'in a sandpit...human bodies, to the number of perhaps forty, have recently been found. These are supposed to have been soldiers slain during the siege of Clonmel, 1649'. The quarry was filled in c. 40 years ago and is now a green field which slopes to N with a silage pit at the N end of the former quarry area. There is a new bungalow in the field W of the former quarry. The owner thought that the sand was extracted when St. Luke's hospital in Clonmel was being built. Multiple-bay single-storey outbuilding opposite house, with pitched slate roof, painted roughcast rendered over rubble limestone walls and having segmental-headed carriage entrances.
