On a broad low hill, in tillage. Indicated as an oval embanked enclosure (ext. dims. c. 50m NW-SE; c. 35m NE-SW) on the 1st (1841) ed. OS 6-inch map. The monument is not indicated on the 1905 revision of the OS 6-inch map, which suggests it was levelled between 1841 and 1905. The S perimeter is preserved in a curve in the field boundary which runs roughly E-W along the S quadrant and the interior is visible as a circular dished area (diam. c. 30m). A geophysical survey carried out in 2024 revealed that the enclosure had an outer fosse, which continues beyond the curving field boundary (Murphy 2024; 24R0390). This survey also revealed a curvilinear annexe (WA017-148----) adjoining to the N. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly - WA017-056: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CWA017-056----. Marked as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 25-30m) on the 1840 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a gentle N-facing slope. This is a slightly dished, grass-covered circular area (diam. 21m) defined by a wide scarp (Wth c. 5m; H 0.1-0.3m). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Situated in scrub on a N-facing slope at the base of rock outcrop. A passage (L 5.2m; Wth 0.9-1.8m) opening to the NE and built of six sidestones on the SE side which increase in height towards the backstone. These are within a cairn (diam. c. 8.5m) defined by 21 kerbstones. It was excavated in 1939 by T.G.E. Powell (1941b) who recovered cremated bone, eighteen sherds of pottery (from a bowl food vessel) (Ó Ríordáin and Waddell 1993, 138) and some flint from the chamber. Situated towards the bottom of a gentle N-facing slope, beside a spring. There is local information about an area of broken and burnt stone which is visible when ploughed. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In tillage. A ring-ditch (int. diam. 11m N-S; 10.6m E-W), enclosed by a fosse (Wth 1.5-1.8m) which was identified by geophysical survey (Murphy 2024; 24R0390) and subsequently confirmed by test trenching (Gallagher 2025, C5/C6; 24E0801). In tillage. Two linear features (Wth 1-1.1m), aligned NW-SE, and a pit (dims. 1.8m x 1.2m) were identified by geophysical survey (Murphy 2024; 24R0390) and subsequently confirmed by test trenching (Gallagher 2025, C15, C16, C17; 24E0801). All three were filled by compact mid- or dark grey/brown silty clay and occasional small subangular stones, though these were more frequent in the pit (C17). One of the linear features (C16) also contained some charcoal. These features are immediately E of a burnt mound (WA017-113----) and their proximity would suggest that they are related. It is located immediately N of, and appears to adjoining, a larger bivallate enclosure (WA017-054----).
