- WM030-059: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CWM030-059----. Situated on a rise, in pasture, with extensive views of the surrounding landscape. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a roughly oval-shaped earthwork. A ringfort (WM030-060----) lies c. 140m to E. Bivallate ringfort described in 1973 as a roughly circular-shaped area (diam. 42m) defined by an inner bank, an intervening fosse and an outer bank. The earth and stone bank is reasonably well preserved all round and has two narrow gaps at N. The intervening fosse is best preserved from SW-W-NW-N-NE. There are the remains of an outer bank from SW-W-NW, however this appears to have been levelled from NW-N-E-S-SW. The interior is relatively level and there is an entrance at E. In the N quadrant and abutting the interior of the inner bank at N, is a flat-topped circular-shaped mound (diam. 7m; H 2m) of earth and stone. There is a slight indication of a shallow fosse surrounding the base of the mound and which is best preserved from WSW-W-WNW. There is a break in the inner bank either side of the mound. Situated on S-facing slope of a large ridge running E-W, in pasture, with extensive views to S and overlooked by higher ground to N. An enclosure (WM030-059----) lies c. 140m to W and a ringfort (WM030-061----) lies c. 180m to E. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a trapezoidal-shaped earthwork. Monument described in 1979 as a roughly pear-shaped area (dims. 36m WNW-ESE; 33m NNW-SSE) defined by a bank and external fosse. The substantial earth and stone bank is best preserved from NNW-N-E. There are very faint traces of a fosse from E-S-W-N, but is best preserved at NNW. The perimeter has been incorporated into modern field fences from E-S-W-NW with a drain also from SW-W-NW. Field fences intersect the perimeter at E, S and NW. There are disturbance gaps in the bank at NNW, NNE, ENE and SSW, although none appear to represent the original entrance. The interior has a SE-facing slope and traces of disturbance. Monument is visible today as a roughly oval-shaped cropmark on Digital Globe aerial photography. Monument described in 1964 as a relatively small D-shaped area enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone. Levelled monument described in 1973 as a faint traces of a levelled scarp which is best preserved along the W side. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a roughly oval-shaped earthwork. Monument described in 1964 as a low platform earthwork (max. H 6’-8’ / 1.8-2.4m) defined by a scarp and faint traces of an external fosse (OPW Field Report 05/05/1964). Interior is inaccessible. Levelled monument described in 1973 as a roughly oval-shaped area (diam. 40m) defined by a pale green band of differential growth of grass which presumably represents a backfilled fosse. - Nahod Beag House, house, 1780–1820, Regional interest, registry number 15403010, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=WM&regno=15403010. Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1800 possibly containing the fabric of an earlier building, having a single-bay flat-roofed entrance porch to the centre of the main façade and a single-storey outbuilding attached to the northeast end. Pitched natural slate roof with raised verges and rendered chimneystacks to either gable end. Lime roughcast rendered walls with square-headed window openings having cut stone sills and two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed doorcase to the projecting porch having a glazed timber door. Set back from road in own grounds with rubble limestone boundary wall to road frontage. Located to the northwest of Moate and the southwest of Mount Temple. Complex of outbuildings to the rear.
