- WM027-025: Ringfort - rath, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CWM027-025----. Situated in relatively low lying wet pasture, enclosed to N, E and S by a stream and to W by a land drain. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular-shaped earthwork and on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map as a subcircular-shaped earthwork defined by a scarp. Monument is clearly visible on Digital Globe aerial photography as an oval-shaped earthwork. Leading from higher ground, c. 65m to E there is a raised earthen causeway which extends initially in a linear form and then curves around to intersect with ringwork/motte (WM027-026----) at NW. This can be followed on Digital Globe aerial photography and may indicate that the two monuments were physically connected on this wet floodplain. - Canal (section of), 1800–1810, Regional interest, registry number 15312033, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=WM&regno=15312033. Sluice gate and retaining walls associated with the Royal Canal supply line from Riverstown River to Thomastown Harbour (15402731) to the south, erected c.1805. Now out of use with channel now dry. Comprising timber and steel sluice gates with four timber balance beams. Set in dressed limestone chamber. Machinery now missing. Located to the southwest of Rathwire and to the north of Thomastown Harbour.
