Marked as a subcircular embanked enclosure (ext. dims c. 55m NW-SE; c. 50m NE-SW) on the 1839 ed. of the ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and clearly visible as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 35m) on vertical aerial photographs (GSIAP: S 527-8). It is situated on top of a broad hill, but it has been removed since 1973. No feature is visible at ground level in a cereal crop, but the site is visible as a cropmark enclosure defined by a single fosse feature and with an internal linear pit (NE-SW) on aerial photographs (MM (54) 6-8). The internal pit could be the location of souterrain (WX035 074---). Located on a gentle W-facing slope with a small N-S stream c. 300m to the W. This is a raised oval area (dims. c. 50m NE-SW; c. 35m NW-SE) that is overgrown and defined by an earthen bank (at SSW: Wth 8m; int. H 1m; ext. H 2m.), with an external fosse (Wth of top 5.5m; D 0.5m) SSE-SW. There is an entrance ramp (Wth 2m) at SE. Detached seven-bay double-height Catholic church, begun 1866; dedicated 1867, on a rectangular plan comprising six-bay double-height nave opening into six-bay single-storey lean-to side aisles centred on single-bay full-height apse (east) on a bowed plan; single-bay three-stage tower (south-west) on a square plan supporting octagonal spire. Renovated, ----, with sanctuary reordered. "Restored", 2000. Pitched slate roof extending into half-conical slate roof (east); lean-to slate roofs (side aisles), perforated crested clay ridge tiles, lichen-covered cut-granite coping to gables including lichen-covered cut-granite coping to gable to entrance (west) front on cut-granite kneelers with Cross finial to apex, and cast-iron rainwater goods on cut-granite eaves retaining cast-iron hoppers and square profile downpipes. Cut-limestone banded repointed snecked rubble stone walls on cut-granite chamfered cushion course on plinth with cut-granite stepped buttresses to entrance (west) front having lichen-covered cut-granite "slated" coping. Pierced quatrefoil "Rose Windows" (clerestorey) with cut-limestone block-and-start surrounds having chamfered reveals framing storm glazing over fixed-pane fittings having leaded stained glass panels. Paired lancet window openings (side aisles) with cut-granite block-and-start surrounds having chamfered reveals framing storm glazing over fixed-pane fittings having leaded stained glass panels. Cusped window openings (east) with cut-granite block-and-start surrounds having chamfered reveals framing storm glazing over fixed-pane fittings having leaded stained glass panels. Pointed-arch door opening to entrance (west) front with cut-granite threshold, and cut-granite surround having concave rebated reveals with hood moulding over on monolithic label stops framing timber boarded double doors. Paired pointed-arch window openings with cut-granite mullions, and cut-granite block-and-start surrounds having chamfered reveals with hood mouldings over on monolithic label stops framing storm glazing over fixed-pane fittings having leaded stained glass panels. Quatrefoil "Rose Window" to gable, cut-granite surround having chamfered reveals with hood moulding over on monolithic label stops framing storm glazing over fixed-pane fittings having leaded stained glass panels. Detached three-bay two-storey parochial house, built 1864-5, on an L-shaped plan centred on single-bay single-storey flat-roofed projecting porch to ground floor abutting single-bay two-storey gabled projecting end bay. Replacement pitched artificial slate roof on an L-shaped plan with lichen-covered ridge tiles, cement rendered chimney stacks having stepped capping supporting terracotta pots, slightly sproketed eaves, and cast-iron rainwater goods on rendered eaves retaining cast-iron downpipes. Cut-granite banded replacement cement rendered walls on cut-granite chamfered plinth with rusticated cut-granite quoins to corners. Square-headed central window openings in bipartite arrangement with cut-granite sills, and cut-granite block-and-start surrounds having chamfered reveals framing replacement aluminium casement windows. Pointed segmental-headed window openings with cut-granite sills, and cut-granite block-and-start surrounds having chamfered reveals framing replacement aluminium casement windows. Interior including (ground floor): vestibule; entrance hall retaining carved timber surrounds to door openings framing timber panelled doors; and carved timber surrounds to door openings to remainder framing timber panelled doors with timber panelled shutters to window openings.
