A well is marked on the 1839 and 1940 eds of the OS 6-inch map and described as Bride’s Well in gothic lettering on both. It is situated on the S bank of an E-W section of a small NE-SW stream and c. 40m W of Brideswell Bridge. It is also c. 180m S of the point where the boundaries of the medieval parishes of Kilmannan, Mularankin and Kilcowan meet. St Bride’s well on the land of Baldwinstown is the starting point for the description of the boundary of Kilmannan parish in the Civil Survey (1654-6) (Simington 1953, 135). There are no other descriptions of the well. It is not visible at ground level in pasture. Marked on the 1839 and 1940 eds of the OS 6-inch map and described as St. Mochoaun’s Well in gothic lettering on both. It is probably named after St. Cuan of Airbhe, the founder of Kilcowan church (WX046-042001-), which is c. 2 km to the SSW. Cuan was a contemporary of St. Munna of Taghmon (WX041-008003-) and he raised Ceallachán, the son of the king of the Fothairt (Forth barony) (Ó Riain 2011, 239). Cuan’s feastday was on the 10th July but, although the well is mentioned by John O’Donovan writing c. 1840, a pattern is not recorded (O’Flanagan 1933, vol. 2, 77). The well is situated on a slight S-facing slope in the valley of a N-S stream, which is c. 20m to the W. The well is an overgrown sunken area (dims c. 1.2m x c. 0.6m) with three stones visible at the base of a whitethorn tree. There is no evidence of veneration. Located on a slight W-facing slope. The cropmark of a subrectangular area (dims. c. 65m x c. 65m) defined by a single fosse feature is visible on aerial photograph (CUCAP, AYK 15). It is also visible on aerial photographs (MM (30) 18-20; ASIAP (8) 20-23) where an entrance gap at E is visible. In addttion it is visible on the OSI series of aerial photographs (2000). Nothing can be discerned at ground level in a cereal crop. Rath (WX047-159----) is c. 120m to the WSW. Archaeological testing (04E0497) on the site of new farm buildings 30-100m to the NW produced evidence of ditches or gullies (Wth c. 0.55-1.6m) which are likely to be related to post-medieval field boundaries (McLoughlin 2004, 2007). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Located on a fairly level landscape. It is marked only on the 1940 ed. of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as the site of a church and burial ground. It was recorded in 1940 that two masonry gate-piers (diam. c. 0.75m; H c. 1.3m) protruding through the road bank just to the S were thought locally to lead to the church (OSFM). There are no visible remains of a structure, enclosure or burial at ground level in a cereal crop, but stone coffins were reputed to have been found nearby (ibid.). St Mochoaun's, or St. Cuan’s Well (WX047-007----) is located c. 350m to the NNW.
