Situated in a slight fold on the SE-facing slope of a low NE-SW ridge. There are two low grass-covered mounds (diam. c. 15m; H c. 0.5m) in a field that is locally called 'the Village'. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload/revision: 3, July, 2012 - WX025-055: House - 18th/19th century, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CWX025-055----. Archaeological excavation (04E0320) in advance of the N30 road re-alignment at site 10 uncovered a post-medieval house foundation. Only an L-shaped section of wall (max. L 4m; Wth 0.5m) survived with some cobbled and beaten earth surfaces, and episodes of burning. There were some earlier channels but all the material is interpreted as a post-medieval house or outhouse and agricultural activity. (McCullough 2004) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 3, July, 2012 - WX025-056: Water mill - horizontal-wheeled, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CWX025-056----. Archaeological excavation (04E0322) in advance of the N30 road re-alignment at site 8 recovered a number of timbers thought to have come from a mill. Eight large timbers were recovered in unmonitored construction work from a limited area, three of which are thought to be from the main structure of a mill. Licensed monitoring identified some others and a palaeo-channel which was sampled and which might contain part of the tailrace. Felling dates of AD 771 +-9 years and AD 745 +-9 years have been obtained through Dendrochronological analysis. (Bangerter 2008) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 3, July, 2012 - WX025-063: Fulacht fia, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CWX025-063----. Identified in centre-line testing (E4110) in advance of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy road scheme and set aside for resolution as Templescoby 2 (Hardy et al. 2010, 132-3). It is situated on a slight E-facing slope and was completely excavated (E4199) by D. Gallagher when a rectangular trough (dims 2.13m E-W; 1,58m N-S; D 0.34m) with clusters of stake-holes in the corners, suggesting a wood-lining, was recorded. Twenty one other stake-holes were immediately to the E, but a large pit (dims 4.5m NW-SE; 2.45-2.7m NE-SW; D 0.68m) was just to the W, and 2 smaller pits (dims 0.5m x 0.42m; D 0.11m: 2.4m x 1.2m; D 0.19m) were in the vicinity. All were filled with material from the burnt stone mound (dims 16m N-S; 10.2m E-W; D 0.1-0.2m), which was partly covered with re-deposited natural at the SW. An oval pit (dims 1.7m E-W; 0.86m N-S; D 0.12m) was 6m S of the trough and outside the spread of the burnt mound. A sample from the large pit produced a C14 date of cal. BC 1207-1010. The unrelated charcoal-production pit (WX025-062----) is c. 140m to the N in Dunsinane townland. Situated on a gentle SE-facing slope. The name ‘Templescoby’ occurs on the Down Survey (1656) county, barony and parish maps as a townland name in Rosdrehide parish. The east edge of Rosdroit parish was transformed into a separate parish called Templescoby by the Church of Ireland in 1806, and its church – St Paul’s - was completed in 1817 c. 1.5km to the E (Lewis 1837, vol. 2, 614). The name is derived from the Gaelic Teampall Scuaibe – the church of Scuaibe, but a saint of this name is not known (Ó Riain 2011). The church at Moneyhore (WX025-43001-) is c. 1.1km to the W. An early church seems to have been established here, and there are local traditions of a monastery, a burial ground (IFC: Schools Collection vol. 0901, 201, 236, 294), and an old town (SMR file). The only evidence of the church is the cropmark of a large enclosure (ext. diam. c. 350m E-W; c. 310m N-S) defined by two fosse features placed c. 8m apart that can be traced only on Google Earth (14/07/2018) curving S-NNW, and its course might be traced in other features E-S. Situated c. 20-25m inside this double fosse is a single fosse traceable S-NW. Indications of what might be two banks roughly following these lines can be seen on OSI images (2005). It was also noted by Simon Dowling.
