Detached eleven-bay three-storey former barracks with two-bay four-storey end blocks, built in 1806, used as a Reformatory School from 1858 to c.1940, and, since 1972, a reconciliation centre. The main three-storey section of the building is basically rectangular in plan with a full-height projection to the rear, whilst the four-storey end blocks are gable-ended and set at right angles to the main section. The walls are finished in lime render with granite (Gibbs-like) surrounds to the openings. The pitched roofs are slated and have stone parapets and rendered chimneystacks. The entrance consists of a panelled timber door and semi-circular arched fanlight with ‘spoke’ tracery. The windows are a mixture of flat-headed and semi-circular headed and have six over six and eight over six timber sash frames. Cast-iron rainwater goods. To the west there is a large U-shaped building, presently roofless, whilst other buildings to the east and south have been converted to offices, meeting rooms etc. To the north there is a chapel, built in c.1860 when the complex was serving as a Reformatory School. - Glencree Barrack, church/chapel, 1850–1870, Regional interest, registry number 16400204, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=WI®no=16400204. Semi-detached five-bay single-storey gable-ended Gothic style Catholic church, built c.1860 as the chapel for Glencree Reformatory. The church is basically rectangular in plan but with transepts, chancel (with vestry), a small porch to the front (east), and a slightly larger one to the north. A rubble-built gate screen abuts the front gable. The walls are of squared granite with reducing buttress string courses, dripstones and eaves brackets. The pitched roofs of the nave and almost all of the various projections are slated and have granite parapets with cross finials, with a bellcote to the nave. The entrance consists of a recessed timber pointed arch door with bevelled reveal. The windows have pointed arch heads, with granite "Y" tracery and stained glass to most. The church has a single cell interior with walls of bare rubble and plaster, a vaulted plaster ceiling with moulded ribs, and a floor with encaustic tiles to the aisle. The bench pews are plain late 20th-century examples and unadorned stone columns separate the nave and the transepts. The church is set at the north end of a large complex originally built as Glencree Barrack (1806-58), later repurposed as reformatory (1858-1940), and adapted as a reconciliation centre in 1972. - House, 1830–1850, Regional interest, registry number 16400205, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=WI®no=16400205. Detached three-bay single-storey house, built c.1840. The building is roughly T-shaped in plan, having a return to the rear. The front façade appears to have been originally harled but much of this has come away revealing a squared granite wall with brick dressings to the openings. The other facades are finished in a mixture of painted and unpainted render and painted rubble. Both sections of the roof are gable-ended and pitched with stone and rendered parapets and rendered chimneystacks. Shaped fascia boards to the front. The entrance consists of a timber door and segmental fanlight with ‘spoke’ tracery, and the flat-headed windows have mainly six over six and eight over eight timber sash frames. Cast-iron rainwater goods.
