Situated on the summit of a low hill with extensive views to W, N and E and towards Lugnagun mountain to the SSE. Oval mound (dims. 44m E-W; 39m N-S; H c. 4m) surrounded by a wide berm (Wth 10-12m) which appears to have been created when the material for the mound was scarped from its immediate environs. The summit (diam. 15m) is surrounded by a low earthen bank (Wth 2.5-3m; H 0.5-0.8m) which may not be an original feature. Part of the site on the NE side has been quarried away. (Price and Walshe 1933, 48) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 December 2008 This monument is subject to a preservation order made under the National Monuments Acts 1930 to 2014 (PO no. 108/1940). - WI005-125: Bullaun stone, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CWI005-125----. Located at what was a N-facing slope overlooking the valley of the River Liffey before it was flooded and turned into the Pollaphuca reservoir. The reduced water level has revealed archaeological features on the newly exposed ground. The granite stone is D-shaped in plan with two straight edges (L 42cm and 23cm), although it has a maximum ‘width’ of 40cm, almost as great as its long side. The height varies from 14cm to 22 cm and it has probably been shaped into its present form, which would just about contain one basin when completed. The underside is generally rounded but it has a skelp removed which was probably accidental and accounts for the different height of the stone at different sides. The upper surface has a single basin (diam. 19cm x 20cm; max. D 4cm). The peck marks used to excavate the basin can be seen clearly, so the bullaun stone was never finished and used as otherwise the surface of the basin would have been ground smooth. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien based on details provided by Michael Moore Date of upload: 4 October 2018 - WI005-126: Standing stone, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CWI005-126----. Located at what was a N-facing slope overlooking the valley of the River Liffey before it was flooded and turned into the Pollaphuca reservoir. The standing stone is just on the NW side (by c. 1-2m) of a relict field bank extending off to the NE and visible now as the stumps of bushes. This field bank is marked on the Cassini OS map. The standing stone is on a point jutting out into the reservoir at the moment, and this would agree with the contours on the Cassini map suggesting it is a low spur. There is a wide view out from W-N-E and three passage tombs on top of mountains to the E are within view. The shore is very steep here and even though the standing stone is only about 3m out from firm ground a black silt has accumulated between the stone and shore. The mud makes it impossible to get near the stone but the firm ground can be felt 45cm below its surface. The visible height above the mud is 85cm and it comes to a point. The stone is probably granite and at the mud surface it has a rectangular cross-section 35cm x 25cm with the long axis aligned 290 degrees (magnetic). It has a total height above the subsoil of 1.3m. The stone leans a little to the N and its point is over the N side.
