Situated at the lower W edge of Keadeen Mountain over looking a shallow valley. Circular area (diam. 35m) defined by a well-preserved bank (max. H 1.2m), truncated at W-NW by the road. A well-defined external fosse (max. D 1.3m), and a very slight external bank (H 0.3m) survive at the E. There is a possible entrance gap at the SSW with traces of a rectangular structure (dims. c. 6m E-W; 4m N-S) visible immediately inside and to the W of this entrance. Situated on a gentle W-facing slope at the foot of Keadeen Mountain, with marshy ground to the W. Circular area (diam. 27.5m) defined by a stone wall from S-W-E (Wth 1.2m) with a low inner and outer revetment of small boulders and a core of loose stone; the wall has collapsed in some areas (Wth 1.8-2m). Along the SE perimeter another wall with inner stone facing was constructed outside the line of the original enclosure terminating in a cusped entrance feature (Wth 1.5m) at the E. A gap in the revetment of boulders at the SSW may indicate the location of the original entrance. There is a rectangular structure (max. ext. dims. 6.9m E-W; 6.3m N-S) in the interior to E of centre defined by uncoursed drystone walls (Wth 1.2m) with an entrance on the S side. On the western slope of Carrig Mountain, on the crest of an E-W ridge from which the ground slopes down to S, W and N. A circular area (int. diam. 3.6m E–W; 3.5m N-S; ext. diam. 6.6m N–S; 6.3m E–W) defined by a low grass-covered spread of fairly large stones (int. H 0.1m at S; 0.3m at N (upslope); ext. H 0.2m at N; 0.4m at S). The monument is in an unplanted area of forestry. Not indicated on any edition of the OS 6-inch maps, but clearly visible on recent OSi aerial photographs, and marked on the most recent OS ITM map. In rough, common grazing lands, on the W-facing slope of a ridge, with commanding views S over lowlands to Mt. Leinster, as well as Kilranelagh Hill nearby to the W, and NW towards Brusselstown and Spinans Hill. The site is intervisible with the large enclosure at Keadeen to the north (WI027-43----) and 'Crossoona Rath' in Boleycarrigeen (WI027-038----). While the area around the enclosure is overgrown with gorse, the interior is grassy and generally gorse-free, however, gorse does obscure some of the enclosing bank/wall. An oval area (diams. c.70m E-W; 53m N-S) is defined by an earth and stone bank at the N (Wth. 2.8m; H 0.5m), which has been largely robbed out along the E where material may have been used in the construction of the nearby stone wall. Along a short section at the WNW where the enclosure comes to a sort of point and where the ground falls away, the enclosing element has been reduced to a scarp (H 1m). At S and SW the enclosing element takes the form of a collapsed stone wall (Wth 2.2m; H 0.4m). The entrance appears to be at the S, where two stones (H 0.70m and 0.85m) set on edge (with a third loosely jambed between them) appear to define the W side of the entrance. The E side is overgrown with gorse, but 2.8m E of these stones another large stone may define the eastern side of the entrance. A a small circular hut site (WI027-087001-) lies to SE of centre within the enclosure. In an enclosure (WI027-087----) to the SE of its centre. A small circular area (diam. 4m) is defined by a low ring of stones with a clump of gorse obscuring the SE edge. The entrance may have been at the W.
