Seventeen oak timbers (L 0.5m - 3.4m; Wth 0.12m-0.6m; T 0.08m-0.22m) located on a gravel surface were uncovered here in 1995 as part of works associated with widening the river (Excavation Licence 95E0004). The timbers were in two groups, 2.2m apart. Most of the timbers in the larger group (14) lay parallel to one another, and two of those in the smaller group appeared to be parallel. A radiocarbon date of 4661-4360 BC was returned for one of the timbers. The identification of these timbers as an archaeological structure is not certain and the excavator (McDermott 1995, 5) suggested that 'the most likely purpose for a structure at Killarney was as a landing place for log boats'. (McDermott 1995, 1-5). Detached three-bay two-storey house, built 1862. The house is finished in render. The panelled front door is framed with panelled pilasters; it has plain sidelights and a "spider’s web" pattern leaded fanlight, all set within a semi-circular headed opening, which itself is framed with panelled pilasters. To either side is a canted two-storey bay with a hipped roof. The window openings are all flat-headed and rest on a sill course with one over one timber sash fames with margins. There is a decorative cast-iron balconette to the central first floor window to the front elevation. The pitched roof is finished with slate and cast-iron rainwater goods and serrated clay ridge tiles; chimneystacks have corbelled caps with clay chimney pots. The house is set within a large private garden. The wrought-iron gates with square gate pillars lead to a long driveway. - Glenlucan House, house, 1850–1870, Regional interest, registry number 16301057, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=WI®no=16301057. Detached five-bay single-storey over basement house, built c.1860. The house is finished in render with granite dressings. A broad flight of stone steps rises to the panelled double door; this has plain sidelights and fanlight with all set within a projecting gabled bay. Window openings are flat-headed; those to the ground floor of the front south-west façade are flat-headed; over each is a projecting cornice supported on console brackets; each also has a decorative Regency style wrought-iron balconette. Window frames are a mixture of two over four and six over six timber sash. The hipped roof is finished in natural slate with an eaves course and cast-iron rainwater goods; chimneystacks are set to the north side and are almost obscured from the front. The original grounds have been sold off and developed with a modern housing estate. The house is slightly set back behind a replacement gate; it is now within a small mature garden. - Bellevue, house, 1850–1870, Regional interest, registry number 16301058, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=WI®no=16301058. Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1860. The house is finished in painted render. The front door is obscured by a glazed timber gabled porch with panelled double doors. Window openings are flat-headed with one over one and six over six timber sash frames. The hipped roof is covered with natural slate; chimneystacks are set to the rear of the building and are all but obscured from the front north-east façade. To the centre of the north-east front is a gable peak which reflects the porch gable. Detached five-bay two-storey over basement Italianate style former villa, built c.1860. now in use as film studio offices. The building is finished in render with moulded dressings and block and start quoins. To the north side there is a later two-bay two-storey addition. The panelled front door has a segmental-arched fanlight over and sits in a three-bay flat-roofed single-storey projecting porch. Window openings are segmental-arched and have mainly one over one timber sash frames; moulded surrounds have keystones. The addition has a canted oriel bay to the first floor while to the south elevation there is a canted first floor bay which rests on a square ground floor bay. The hipped roof is finished with natural slate and cast-iron rainwater goods and has wide overhanging eaves. Chimneystacks are rendered with corbelled caps and clay pots. Detached single-storey three-bay former gate lodge, built c.1860, now in use as a house. There is a small lean-to addition to the north rear. The building is finished in render with moulded dressings and block and start stone quoins. The replacement front door is set in a flat-headed opening within a projecting single-storey gabled porch. This is flanked by plain paired pilasters. Window openings are segmental arch-headed with timber casement frames. The hipped roof is finished with natural slate and has cast-iron rainwater goods. The chimneystack is rendered with a corbelled cap and no pots.
