Described by Kinahan (1884, 230 (stone B)) as 'a large roundish mass of granite, its more conspicuous face sloping nearly due south, and on it are five cups more or less obliterated by weathering.' Described by Kinahan (1884, 230-1 (stone C)) as 'squarish in form, lying flat, and seems to be either a quartz-rock (greissen) or quartzose-granite. The markings on its surface have not a very ancient look. They are shallow and indistinct, and may be ancient. The cup to the east is unsymmetrical, being 1.5 deep near its N.E. edge, while the hole to the S.W. is of a rectangular form, undercut to the S.W., and 1.5 inches deep. It is possible that the eastern cup is an ancient one subsequently modified in shape.' The location indicated by Kinahan (1884, 231) was inspected by ASI in 1990, however this stone was not located. Described by Kinahan (1884, 231-2 (stone D)) as 'having its surface very much weathered, so that all the markings except a cup to the east are very indistinct. Besides this cup there are two very indistinct cups and two carvings that seem to be combinations of cups and gashes. There is also to the northward what may be a gash, but it is so indistinct that possibly it is only due to weathering.' - WI035-023: Megalithic tomb - wedge tomb, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CWI035-023----. Situated on a gentle S-facing slope in a small area of scrubby ground with outcropping rock beside a stream (10m W of the tomb). A rectangular chamber (dims. 1.3m x 4.55m) aligned NE-SW, which is largely intact, defined by five sidestones at the N, two to the S, an inset backstone at the E end, and some earthfast boulders. A possible forecourt at the SW end is defined by a vertical slab with the same alignment as the chamber. There is some outer walling on the W side including a small cist-like structure. A raised area (Wth 7.7m; L 7.8m) surrounding the chamber marks the location of the cairn. A single capstone towards the SW entrance survives in situ. Structural stones are of granite and greywacke, and there is a suitable greywacke outcrop 20m to the NE. The tomb is not marked on the 1838 OS 6-inch map. It was investigated by Kinahan in or shortly before 1879, who found a few fragments of charcoal scattered about the gallery and a 'small heap of charcoal' at the E end (Kinahan 1880, 253-7). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Situated on a gentle SE-facing slope in pasture on the W side of a small gently sloping NE-SW valley. Marked on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as a small circular enclosure (max. diam. c. 35m), truncated at the SE by field boundaries.
