Situated on a very gentle N-facing slope in pasture overlooking Vartry Reservoir. Oval enclosure (dims. 80m NE-SW; 89m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4-6m; int. H 0.4-1.2m; ext. H 1.2-2m) with modern external dry stone facing on the partly disturbed NE perimeter. There is an external fosse (Wth 4m; D 1.2m) at the NW and S with slight traces at the NE. No indication of an entrance or internal features. The NE is disturbed by a farm track which occupies the recut fosse at the NW. A large block of quartz-granite outside the site at the N is known locally as The Mass Rock'. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). ## Architectural heritage (National Inventory of Architectural Heritage)

- Roundwood Park, house, 1790–1810, Regional interest, registry number 16401803, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=WI&regno=16401803. Detached multiple-bay two-storey house, built c.1800 but extended and remodelled in castle style in the later 19th century. The building has an irregular plan with three projecting bays to the front, to the north a three-stage rounded tower, with a two-storey tower-like bay to the south of this and a large square two-storey projection to the south again. To the rear there are two large (but unequal) full-height square bays to either end of the elevation. The walls are finished in painted roughcast and topped with a crenellated parapet which obscures the roof. The entrance is to the south side of the two-storey tower-like bay and consists of a panelled timber door and segmental fanlight, all encased with a granite Gibbsian surround. The windows are of various sizes but all are flat-headed and filled with replacement uPVC frames. Cast-iron rainwater goods. The house is set within extensive grounds.
