Situated in a natural hollow with a steep downhill slope (to the Avoca river) immediately to the W of the site. No visible trace of the church site mentioned by Price (1967, 467), said to have been founded here by Palladius. A holy well (Tobernacla, WI035-030002-), which is marked on both editions of the OS 6-inch map is located in nearby rock outcrop. Marked as 'Tobernacla' on 1838 OS 6-inch map, possibly tobar na cloiche or 'well of the stones'. Situated on the highest point of the shoulder of a hill that rises to the NE with good views to the NW to Croghan Moira and the SW to Croghan Kinsella. A grass covered mound (diam. 15m; H 0.6m) composed primarily of earth but some stone also visible. A field boundary (running NW-SE) skirts the SW edge of the mound. ## Architectural heritage (National Inventory of Architectural Heritage)

- Avoca Copper and Sulphur Mines, mine/pit, 1840–1860, Regional interest, registry number 16403508, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=WI&regno=16403508. Ruins of various copper and sulphur mainly open cast mines, established c.1850. The grouping comprises now mainly ruinous buildings tall industrial chimneys and various tramways. The buildings are all roofless and are constructed in granite while the chimneys are constructed either in brick or a mixture of brick and stone. Large scars are still visible across the landscape.
