  Description

  Situated on a slight platform on the floodplain on the E bank of the Inch or Claureen river. Listed in the RMP (1996) as ‘House – 17th century, possible’. On inspection in 2000 this was found to be a five-bay, two-storey house dating to the 18th century with a later porch added. • CL033-138002 Water mill - vertical-wheeled
  Description

  Listed in the RMP (1996) as ‘Watermill, possible site’. One of two mills (see CL033-138001-) referred to as the ‘Mills of Inish’ in 1656 in the Inchiquin Mss (540) and in the Manor Court Rolls (360) in 1685 as cited by Ó Dálaigh (2012, 16). Also 2 corn mills, a miller’s house and mill park are mentioned in Moland’s survey of 1703 (ibid.). The location of this mill and the name ‘Ennis Mills’ are shown on Ó Dálaigh’s map (2012, 4). Excavations in 1997 (licence no. 97E0424) in advance of the construction of an adjacent building to the SW revealed a wall which may have belonged to the earlier mill complex (Connolly 1998, 6).   Description

  Detached multiple-bay six-storey former corn mill, built c. 1830, with return to River Fergus at rear. Gable facade blocked up and ground floor remodelled to accommodate retail outlet, c. 1980. Pitched natural slate roof. Coursed rubble limestone walls with pie crust red brick cornice, some rendered sections and some slate hanging. Cast-iron tie plates at regular intervals on return. Segmental-arched window openings with red brick dressings and timber framed fixed windows. Set at slight angle to street, occupying area space between Cornmarket Street and River Fergus. Aluminium shop windows and door, c. 1980, to retail outlet.

• Waterville, house, 1810–1830 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-storey house, built c. 1820. Hipped slate roof with pair of centrally placed red brick chimneystacks. Roughcast rendered walls. Timber panelled door with radial fanlight above. Timber sliding sash windows. Rear of house faces the street, entrance façade addresses the garden. Cut-stone gate piers with timber gates to site.

  Description

  Rubble stone bridge causeway, built c. 1830, across River Fergus. Comprising three semi-circular arches with cut-stone voussoirs, feeding water to mill race. Smaller semi-circular arch, now closed up, serving former mill building. Site of Ennis Mills sold by Earl of Thomond in 1712. Purchased by Bannatynes in 1824.

  Cut stone mill race, built c. 1830, and waterwheel, forming surviving parts of Ennis Corn Mill, demolished, c. 1980. Fragment of rendered wall with cut-stone stone semi-circular opening housing axle of mill wheel. Cast-iron wheel with replacement timber paddles. Cast-iron sluice gate directly upstream. Cut-stone faced mill pond leading to millrace. Rubble stone walls and foot bridge to site, built c. 1990. Site of Ennis Mills sold by Earl of Thomond in 1712. Purchased by Bannatynes in 1824.
