Within County Kildare, the proposed development will take place within the following townlands: Confey, Parsonstown, Barnhall, Easton, Rinawade Upper, Rinawade Lower, Castletown, Oldcarton, Nicholastown, Killickaweeny, Cappagh, Newtown, Ballynakill, Ballyvoneen, Dysart, Dunfierth, Coolree, Kilmurry, Thomastown, Kilshanchoe, Clonagh, Cadamstown, Tanderagee, Calfstown, Ballinderry, Balrinnet, Kilglass, Nurney, Williamstown, Ballindoolin, Carrick, Grange East, Rahin. The Rinawade - Dunfirth Tee - Kinnegad 110 kV OHL circuit runs through County Meath, County Kildare and County Offaly. It is 54 km in length and travels from Kinnegad 110 kV substation in Killaskillen (County Meath) and traverses southeast where a short loop into Dunfirth 110 kV substation in Dunfirth (County Kildare) exists. The line then continues southeast where it terminates at Rinawade 110kV substation in Rinawade Lower (County Kildare). The OHL has a total of 249no. supporting structures. Within the functional area of Kildare County Council, there is 30.66 km of the existing OHL circuit, with 140 no. structures. Within the functional area of Meath County Council there is 23.16 km, with 107 no. structures, and within the functional area of Offaly County Council there is 0.42 km, with 2 no. structures. Separate planning applications will be lodged with Meath County Council and Offaly County Council. The proposed development within Co. Kildare will comprise: the replacement (“restringing”) of the existing OHL circuit conductor wires with a new higher capacity conductor between structure numbers 93 - 153, 224 - 226, and 240 - 247; the strengthening of tower foundations at 9no. locations; the strengthening of towers (i.e., member replacement) at 14no. locations; the painting of towers at 15no. locations; shear block remedial works of towers at 1no. location; the replacement of polesets at 43no. locations, with similar structures. There will be no change in height at 6no. poleset replacements. There will be height increases between 0.1m and 2.0m at 33no. poleset replacements. • KD007-001 Castle - tower house
  Description

  Stands at the SE end of a possible bawn (KD007-001001-) in gently undulating pasture, liable to flood, c. 130m NE of the River Boyne. Built c. 1462 to guard a ford (KD007-002----) on the River Boyne when, according to Berry (1914, 23), '£40 was granted to Sir Robert Preston Lord of Gormanstown and Sir Thomas Plunket upon the county of Meath to raise the said castle ... and also that the four baronies of Meath next adjoining to the said ford shall perform all manner of carriage of stones, lime, sand and trees, necessary to the said castle … to find meat and drink for all the masons, workmen of the said castle ...' . According to Fitzgerald (1917, 409-10) the E end, containing the doorway, collapsed in 1916 , and the surviving three-storied rectangular portion (int. dims. L 6.85m E-W; Wth; 5.1m; H c. 10m) is constructed of roughly coursed limestone blocks with a slight base-batter and well-dressed quoins. The ground-floor is lit by three round-headed loops in plank-centred, curving splayed embrasures, centrally placed in the S, W and N walls, with the W wall embrasure also containing a musket loop. Beam-slot holes in the N and S walls mark first-floor level, access to which is via spiral stairs in the SE angle. The first floor is lit by similarly positioned, but pointed-arched loops, with those in the W and N walls flanked by musket loops. A barrel-vaulted ceiling springs from the N and S walls. An intramural chamber at the W end of the S wall contains a garderobe, whose ope is near present outer ground level, and an intramural stairs (now inaccessible) in the E half of the S wall gave access to second-floor level. The castle, which is in the ownership of Kildare County Council, was stabilised in 1985 but carries a 'Dangerous Building' warning notice . Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011

  Description

  On level pasture, liable to flood, c. 130m NE of the River Boyne. Running NW from Kinnafad Castle (KD007-001----), a low, denuded and cattle-poached, slightly raised, rectangular area (dims L c. 25m NW-SE; Wth c. 20m) is defined by a low scarp (H 0.4-0.7m) with traces of a shallow, outer fosse (Wth 1.1m; D 0.3m) along the SE side, and may be the remains of a bawn.   Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey farmhouse, extant 1837, on a rectangular plan with three-bay two-storey side elevations. "Improved", pre-1909, producing present composition. Occupied, 1911. Sold, 2002. Now disused. Hipped slate roof on an L-shaped plan with hipped slate roof (south-west), clay ridge tiles, paired roughcast central chimney stacks having cut-limestone chamfered capping supporting yellow terracotta octagonal pots, and cast-iron rainwater goods on rendered eaves. Lime rendered coursed rubble limestone walls with concealed flush quoins to corners. Segmental-headed central door opening with threshold, and block-and-start surround centred on fluted keystone framing replacement timber panelled double doors having fanlight. Square-headed window openings with cut-limestone sills, and concealed dressings framing six-over-six timber sash windows. Square-headed window openings to rear (west) elevation with cut-limestone sills, and concealed dressings including lintels framing two-over-two timber sash windows. Set in unkempt grounds with reclaimed rusticated limestone ashlar piers to perimeter having "Cyma Recta"- or "Cyma Reversa"-detailed cornices below capping.

  Detached three-bay two-storey house, c.1750, on a symmetrical plan with round-headed door opening to centre ground floor. Extended, c.1980, comprising single-bay single-storey lean-to return to rear to north-west. Refenestrated, c.1990. Hipped roof with slate. Clay ridge tiles. Rendered chimney stacks. Cast-iron rainwater goods on eaves course. Lean-to to return. Artificial slate. Roughcast walls. Unpainted. Exposed concrete block construction to return. Square-headed window openings. Stone sills. Replacement uPVC casement windows, c.1990. Round-headed door opening. Cut-stone block-and-start doorcase with keystone. Timber panelled door. Spoked fanlight. Set back from road in own grounds. Part-overgrown grounds to site. Detached nine-bay single-storey outbuilding, c.1750, with series of round-headed integral carriageways. Part reroofed, c.1970. Gable-ended roof with slate (replacement corrugated-iron, c.1970, to right). Clay ridge tiles. Remains of cast-iron rainwater goods on eaves course. Lime rendered walls over rubble stone construction. Unpainted. Square-headed window openings. No sills. Timber fittings. Square-headed door openings. Timber fittings.
