• CL027-017 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a high NE-SW ridge (61m OD) in pasture with excellent views of the surrounding landscape and overlooking a large expanse of bog to S. The monument is not depicted on the 1842 edition of the OS 6-inch map, however it is shown as a circular enclosure on the OS 25-inch and 1920 edition of the OS 6-inch maps. It consists of a roughly circular area (22m N-S; 23m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (int. H 0.15-0.25m; ext. H 0.85m; Wth at top 0.6m; overall Wth 2.75m). The interior height of the bank (int. H 0.25m) is more defined N-E, however the external height is much lower than elsewhere. The exterior of the bank is denuded from livestock erosion, particularly at W, where a trackway (long-axis NE-SW) is located between the monument and the adjacent field boundary to WNW. There is a probable entrance gap (Wth 2.5m) at SSW. The interior of the monument is generally level except at SE, where there is a slight tilt downslope. The interior is slightly obscured by briars around the perimeter and mature trees grow out of bank. • CL027-050 Enclosure
  Description

  In a level expanse of raised bog with reasonable views of the surrounding countryside. This possible enclosure was identified as an oval variation in vegetation growth on Bing satellite imagery (https://binged.it/2mXNhyD, Accessed 6 March 2017). It comprises a distinct ring (Wth c. 1m) of heather forming an oval area (16m ESE-WNW; 18m NNW-SSE) which is up to c. 0.1m taller than the surrounding bog. This ring of heather is distinct from the surrounding vegetation of bog cotton, bog asphodel and lower growth of heather. • CL027-051 Enclosure
  Description

  In a level expanse of raised bog with reasonable views of the surrounding countryside. This enclosure was identified as an oval variation in vegetation growth on Bing satellite imagery (https://binged.it/2mwT7K1, Accessed 6 March 2017). It consists of an oval area (16m N-S; 12m E-W) defined by the remains of a low bank (H 0.25m; Wth 3.3m) which is accentuated by a dense ring of bog myrtle E-W and a distinct, yet more sparse ring of bog myrtle W-E. There is occasional heather amongst the ring of bog myrtle. There appears to be a probable fosse (Wth 2.2m; D 0.1m) around the exterior, where it is poorly drained and covered in sphagnum moss. The interior is generally level and is covered by bog cotton and low heather, much like the exterior. Enclosure (CL027-052----) is c. 38m to NNW. • CL027-052 Enclosure
  Description

  In a level expanse of raised bog with reasonable views of the surrounding countryside. This enclosure was identified as an oval variation in vegetation growth on aerial photography (https://binged.it/2mXNhyD and https://binged.it/2mwT7K1, Accessed 6 March 2017). It consists of a roughly circular area (diam. 10m) defined by a low bank (int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.25m; Wth 3.5m) accentuated by a ring of bog myrtle and heather. The bank is best preserved NE-SW where it is higher. The interior is generally level and is covered by bog cotton and occasional low heathers. There appears to be a probable fosse (Wth 2m; H 0.1m) around the exterior, where it is poorly drained and covered in sphagnum moss. Enclosure (CL027-051----) is c. 38m to SSE.
