- CO063-114 Ringfort - rath
Description
In undulating tillage, on a SE-facing slope, just above a N-S flowing stream and marshy area. A circular concave depression (diam. 38m N-S; 37m E-W) is defined by a low rise (int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.6m) SE-NW and by the edge of the depression NW-ENE. The interior slopes down to the SE, levelling off somewhat in the SE half of the possible rath. Initially this possible rath was identified as a circular soilmark at ground level and it is also visible on an aerial photograph (SMR file). The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
