• CO135-019001 Graveyard
  Description

  On steep S-facing slope overlooking Clonakilty. Headstones and chest tombs date from 18th century to present day. C of I church (CO135-019002-) in yard built on site of earlier church (CO135-130---). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. • CO135-019002 Church
  Description

  In graveyard (CO135-019001-). Built in 1818 (Lewis 1837, vol. 1, 348) on site of earlier church (CO135-130---). Rectangular nave with chancel at E end. Embattled tower, with corner pinnacles, at W end. N and S transepts later additions. Vestry at NE corner. Corner buttresses on nave, chancel and tower. • CO135-052001 Historic town
  Description

  The town of Clonakilty was founded by the Earl of Cork and already had a corporation by 1605; it received a charter from James 1st in 1613 (Smith 1750, vol. 1, 251). The town does not appear to have been walled and is not listed by Thomas (1992). No recognisable 17th-century buildings survive in the town. • CO135-052002 Brewery
  Description

  Built in 1807 by Richard Deasy (Tuipear 1988, 25) on Fealge river in Clonakilty. Rectangular cobbled yard with well, enclosed by mainly 2 -storey buildings; some still in use. Imposing engine house in NE corner of complex with pair of brick chimneys projecting from NE and SW corners of structure (date plaque 1887 crediting builders McCarthy and Santry). Another pair of brick chimneys on N range; taller of two has date plaque of 1915. Remains of cooper's work shop on S range.   Description

  In graveyard (CO135-019001-). Site of 17th century church built by R. Boyle, replaced in 1818 by C of I church (CO135-019002-) (Webster 1932, 272-273). No visible surface remains. • CO135-133 Market-house
  Description

  Set back of street line on McCurtain Hill, Clonakilty. Early 18th century Market House probably on site of earlier one dating to mid 17th century (Tuipéar 1988, 31-32). In use as town hall up to 1953; now a store. Rectangular two-storey structure with modern roof; 4-bay with 2-bay central breakfront; originally pedimented which was removed during alterations in 1953. Four-bay arcading at ground level. • House, 1785–1805 · Regional interest
  Description

  End-of-terrace two-bay three-storey house, built c.1795, with entrance to gable. Pitched slate roof with rendered eaves course, chimneystack and cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered walls throughout with brass plaque to front (north) elevation. Diminishing square-headed window openings with rendered sills to front elevation, having six-over-three pane timber sliding sash windows to second floor and uPVC casement windows elsewhere. Recessed round-headed door opening within timber doorcase to side (east) elevation, comprising panelled reveals and capped pilasters on rendered plinths surmounted by open bedded pediment. Replacement glazed timber door with spoked fanlight having limestone stepped approach.
