  Description

  This standing stone, on the S slopes of Knockmoylemore, commands a panoramic view over the broad valley through which the Garfinny, Owenalondrig and several smaller rivers flow towards Trabeg. Irregular in plan, the stone stands 1.58m high and measures a maximum of 1.05m wide x .45m thick. It tapers slightly towards the flat shouldered top; N-S. The above description is derived from J. • KE043-192 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Lisbunaghbricka/Lios Bun Achadh Brice: The univallate ringfort marked on the OS maps has been almost completely destroyed. The site is now marked by a circular band of bare earth and stones which encloses an area roughly 17.5m E-W and 16m N-S. On the downslope side the area is raised c. 1m above the level of the trackway which skirts its S side. A small stone object was discovered on the surface. It consists of a roughly circular disc, 6cms in diameter and 3 to 4.7cm thick, with central depressions on each of its faces and 2 very shallow depressions on its sides. The site was situated on the lower S slopes of Knockmoylemore overlooking the low-lying land that surrounds Trabeg. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage (compiler) 'Corca Dhuibhne.   Description

  The circular enclosure marked on the OS maps has been destroyed. It was about 1 chain (20m) in diameter (OSNB Garfinny, 36) and the site is now marked by a roughly circular area, 16 to 18m in diameter, of rough ground with a thick growth of reeds. • KE043-199001 Clochan
  Description

  Univallate rath KE043-199---- is situated on the S slopes of Knockmoylemore, overlooking the lower valley of the Garfinny river and its tributaries. A circular clochaun KE043-199001-, 4.7m in diameter internally, is built against the bank at WSW. The drystone-built wall is c. 1m thick and up to c. 1m in height but much of it is now defaced. The ill-defined entrance gap faces SE. There is a partly stone-lined depression in the top of the ringfort bank directly W of the hut. It measures 2.5m x 1.5m x 1m deep. Its function is not known but a 2nd hollow a little to S may have been caused by animal burrowing. It seems clear that this site has been modified and some of the internal features may be secondary. • KE043-200 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Internal diam. 22m Lisnacarheen/Lios na Ceártan: Situated on the lowermost, S facing slopes of Knockmoylemore, overlooking Trabeg. The site consists of a circular univallate rath containing a souterrain, possible hut-sites and a substantial rectangular house which is probably secondary. The earthen bank is c. 5m wide and 1m high, but has been removed entirely along the SE side. There are several low banks of earth and stone in the interior, extending from the bank towards the centre, but their function is not clear. The drystone facing along the inner edge of the bank at NE may mark the location of hut-sites. The rectangular building measures 3.5m x at least 7m internally and is of drystone construction. The walls are 1m thick and a maximum of 1.2m high; the SE wall was recently destroyed. This is locally reputed to have been a forge. The souterrain (KE043-200001-) has been extensively damaged. The present remains consist of an L-shaped passage which opens off the E side of a large excavation. The passage leads E for 1.3m then N for a further 5.3m. It is .46 to 1.3m wide and c 1.m high. The walls are constructed of upright slabs, c. 0.7m high, overlain by drystone walling, and the roof is closed by 8 flat slabs. The roof slab spanning the entrance to the longer passage is set .14m below the level of the remainder. An air-vent opens off the NE corner of the structure, about .75m above the floor. Traces of a 3rd passage are preserved in the recent excavation. It appears to have been aligned N-S, at right angles to the short section of the L-shaped passage. It was of drystone construction and was .65m wide, but its length is not known. Apparently the souterrain terminated with 'a small building with a fireplace in it' (OSNB Garfinny, 26), but this feature is not now evident. The above description is derived from J.   Description

Traces of a 3rd passage are preserved in the recent excavation. It appears to have been aligned N-S, at right angles to the short section of the L-shaped passage. It was of drystone construction and was .65m wide, but its length is not known.   Lisnacarheen/Lios na Ceártan: Situated on the lowermost, S facing slopes of Knockmoylemore, overlooking Trabeg, circular univallate rath KE043-200---- contains a souterrain, possible hut-sites and a substantial rectangular house which is probably secondary. There are several low banks of earth and stone in the interior, extending from the bank towards the centre, but their function is not clear. The rectangular building KE043-200003- measures 3.5m x at least 7m internally and is of drystone construction. The walls are 1m thick and a maximum of 1.2m high; the SE wall was recently destroyed.   Description

  Lisgallagh/Lios Coille: This ringfort no longer survives. It was marked on the OS maps as a circular univallate enclosure and in the OSNB (Garfinny, 37) was described as about '2 chains (40m) in diameter with a circular ruin inside it'. • KE043-202 Standing stone - pair
  Description

  Two stones, one standing and the other prostrate, are located on gently sloping, rough pastureland at the foot of Knockmoylemore and Croaghskearda, c. 100m W of a small stream that flows S towards Trabeg. The SW stone is 2.2m high, 1.92m wide and a maximum of .6m thick; it inclines heavily to S. Lying 2.3m to NE, the prostrate slab measures 2.8m x 1.9m x a maximum of .75m thick. At the W edge of its upper surface is what appears to be a cup-mark, 6 to 7cm in diameter and 1 to 1.5cm deep. A setting of 3 low stones form a kerb along the SE edge, and in the W sector are the ruined remains of a crudely-constructed, rectangular, drystone-walled 'pen', 2m x 2m.   An oval mound of earth and stones located directly E of a field fence on the lower S slopes of Croaghskearda/Knockmoylemore. It measures 7.5m x 8.4m x .2 to .6m in height and the edge is raised above the interior in parts. It is possible that it represents the ruins of a hut but this is not certain.   Lios Clochán na Lobhar: This site has been described as a circular fort 'about 1 chain (20m) in diameter and 5 feet (1.5m) high composed of earth and stone' (OSNB Garfinny, 33). The extant remains consist of a densely overgrown stony mound, measuring c. 20m NW-SE and c. 11m NE-SW, in which the outline of one or possibly 2 hut-sites can be traced. At the NW end of the mound, a roughly circular area, 7.4m x 6.6m, is enclosed by defaced and partly collapsed walling up to 2m high externally and 1m internally. An entrance gap at SE leads to a 2nd possible hut. This latter consists of a mound of stone and earth, c. 1 to 1.5m high, with a central depression measuring 4m x 3m.
