• LF019-014 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a very gentle S-facing slope in low-lying pasture. This raised circular area (diam. c. 27m) is defined by a scarp (H 0.8m) and an external fosse (Wth 2m; D 0.5m). An outer bank noted from N-NE-E in 1976 (SMR file) is no longer visible. The original entrance is not recognisable. Adjoining the rath at SSE is a rectangular annexe (c. 25m ENE-WSW; c. 20m NNW-SSE) defined by a low scarp (H 0.1-0.3m) with a very narrow shallow external fosse (Wth 1.1m; D 0.1m). • LF019-016 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a low rise in pasture. Depicted as an enclosed circular copse of trees on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. A report in 1976 (SMR file) recorded a raised circular area (diam. c. 23m) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone with a shallow intervening fosse and an outer bank. The outer bank was identifiable only at S. Both banks have since been levelled and the fosse infilled. The defining element is a scarp (H 0.4m) at S and W. Mature deciduous trees, predominantly larch, are growing on the monument. Possibly a ringfort that was subsequently landscaped. (CUCAP, BGI 1) Compiled by: Patrick F.   Description

  On a gentle SE-facing slope in pasture, c. 150m to the NE of Richfort House. Depicted as a circular tree-lined enclosure with the designation ‘Fort’ on the 1837 edition of the OS 6-inch map. The monument has been levelled and is not visible at ground level. However, it is identifiable as a cropmark on an aerial photograph (CUCAP, BGI 1).   Description

  Gateway formerly serving Richfort (now demolished), built c. 1820, comprising ashlar limestone entrance piers (on square-plan) having chamfered dressed limestone plinths and tooled capstones over. Double leaf cast-iron gates. Recessed from the road and angled to face southeast. Cut stone wheel guard to the front of gate piers. Located to the east of the site of Richfort and to the northwest of Ardagh. Random rubble limestone boundary walls to road frontage to the north and the south. New gateway cut through boundary wall to the north side of gates.
