  Situated just off the summit of a small knoll known as Gibbet Hill, on a plateau overlooking the River Suir. A conglomerate stone with a rectangular cross-section (dims. 1m x 0.45-0.6m; max. H 1.4m) is oriented N-S. Archaeological testing (03E0957) in the surrounding area by Colm Moloney (2006) and Catriona Gleeson (05E0421) (Gleeson 2008) failed to produce any related material.   Description

  On a slight terrace of a severe NE-facing slope which runs down to the River Suir. An upright stone of red sandstone with quartz inclusions. The standing stone (H 1.33m) is polygonal in plan (N face Wth 0.55m; E face Wth 0.38m; S face Wth 0.38m; W face 0.54m) and narrows somewhat as it rises to form a roughly triangular shape (S face Wth 0.59m; N-S T 0.4m). Archaeological testing (05E0421) in an area of c. 10 ha identified a pit (diam. 0.47-0.54m; D 0.22m) with a larger pit (diam. 1.9-2.1m; D 0.25m) containing charcoal and cut in an oxidised subsoil c. 15m to the ENE.   Detached five-bay two-storey warehouse, built 1792, on a corner site with eight-bay two-storey return to north-east, and four-bay two-storey higher block to north-east with square-headed carriageway, and three-bay two-storey side elevation to south-east. Renovated, c.1965, with some openings blocked-up. Reroofed, c.1990. Now in use as workshop. Pitched roof on an L-shaped plan (forming hip to corner) with replacement corrugated-iron, c.1990, iron ridge tiles, corrugated-Perspex rooflights and replacement uPVC rainwater goods, c.1990, on rendered eaves. Hipped roof to block to north-east with replacement fibre-cement slate, c.1965, concrete ridge tiles, rendered chimney stacks and replacement uPVC rainwater goods, c.1990, on rendered eaves. Painted rendered, ruled and lined walls with channelled piers to corners. Segmental-headed window openings with rendered sills. Timber casement windows with iron bars. Outline of segmental- and square-headed window openings to reminder with rendered sills. Blocked-up, c.1965, and rendered over. Square-headed door opening with timber boarded door. Square-headed carriageway to block to north-east. Diagonal tongue-and-groove timber panelled double doors. Interior with remains of timber floor to first floor on timber beams, red brick-lined fireplaces and open timber roof construction to return. Road fronted on a corner site fronting on to three roads with concrete footpath to front.

  Attached eight-bay three-storey over raised base warehouse, c.1775, originally detached. Renovated, c.1900. Reroofed, c.1950. Now disused and partly derelict. Pitched roof with replacement corrugated-iron, c.1950, concrete ridge tiles, timber bargeboards and cast-iron rainwater goods on rendered eaves. Unpainted replacement roughcast lime rendered walls, c.1900, over random rubble stone construction with yellow brick sections including Flemish bond gable to side elevation to north-west. Square-headed openings (some with shallow segmental-headed relieving arches) with rendered sills (some with painted yellow brick block-and-start surrounds), and replacement louvered timber fittings, c.1900. Set back from road in shared grounds with tarmacadam grounds to site.

Pitched slate roofs behind parapets with clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stacks, replacement square rooflights, c.1995, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Painted rendered walls to front (north-east) elevation with moulded rendered course to ground floor, paired moulded rendered courses to first floor and rendered coping to parapets. Unpainted rendered walls to remainder. Unpainted replacement cement rendered walls, c.1995, to return. Shallow segmental-headed window openings to ground floor with flush chamfered sills. 1/1 timber sash windows. Interior with timber panelled doors having carved timber surrounds, and round-headed supporting arch to entrance hall on fluted pilasters with panelled soffits. Painted rendered walls with rendered dressings including full-height pilasters (paired to ends), panels to first floor, and moulded rendered cornice having blocking course over with concrete coping. Refenestrated, c.1990. Hipped slate roof (pitched to return) with clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stacks, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Unpainted rendered, ruled and line walls with rendered quoins to corners. Square-headed window openings (including to canted bay windows) with rendered sills. Replacement uPVC casement windows, c.1990. Square-headed door opening approached by flight of six steps with glazed timber panelled door, sidelights and overlight. Set back from road in own grounds with landscaped grounds to site.(ii) Attached two-bay two-storey range, c.1890, to east possibly originally single-storey. Renovated, c.1990, with single-bay single-storey lean-to red brick projecting porch added to accommodate use as separate residence. Hipped slate roof with red clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stack, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Lean-to artificial slate roof to porch. Unpainted rendered, ruled and lined walls. Red brick Running bond walls to porch. Square-headed window openings with replacement concrete sills, c.1990, and replacement timber casement windows, c.1990. Renovated, c.1990, to accommodate residential use. Pitched slate roof with clay ridge tiles, replacement square rooflights, c.1990, rendered coping, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Unpainted rendered walls. Square-headed window openings with replacement concrete sills, c.1940, and replacement uPVC casement windows, c.1990.(iv) Gateway, c.1890, to south-west comprising pair of unpainted rendered heavily ruled and lined piers with shallow pyramidal capping having wrought iron gates with Fleur-de-Lys finials, and sections of curved flanking wrought iron railings on rendered panelled plinth walls leading to unpainted rendered heavily ruled and lined outer piers.(v) Gateway, c.1890, to south-east comprising pair of cut-granite piers with cut-stone capping, wrought iron double gates, and unpainted rendered boundary wall having square-headed pedestrian gateway with cut-limestone surround having keystone, and timber boarded door.

Set back from road in own grounds with gravel forecourt.(ii) Detached six-bay single-storey mono-pitched rubble stone outbuilding, c.1870, to west. Reroofed, c.1945. Mono-pitched roof with replacement corrugated-iron, c.1945, rendered ridge, and rendered coping. Painted random rubble stone walls. Square-headed window openings with no sills. 6/6 timber sash windows with some fixed-pane timber windows having diamond-lattice glazing. Square-headed door openings with timber boarded doors, and some now boarded over with corrugated-iron.
