  Description

  Located on the floodplain of the River Suir. First identified in centre-line testing (02E0274) by Deirdre Murphy of Archaeologoical Consultancy Services in advance of the N25 Waterford City by-pass (Murphy 2004). Fully excavated (03E0340) by Aidan O'Connell of ACS, it became known as Knockhouse Upper 3. A burnt mound (dims. 7m E-W; 5m N-S; T 0.15m) is associated with an oval unlined trough (dims. 2.16m NE-SW; 1.56m NW-SE; D 0.35m). Nineteenth century brick-kilns were nearby.   Description

  Situated on the floodplain of the SW-NE River Suir, which is c. 50m to the NW. First identified in centre-line testing (02E0441) by Tara O'Neill of Archaeological Consultancy Services in advance of the Waterford City by-pass (O'Neill 2004b), and fully excavated (03E0588) by Ian Russell of ACS as Gracedieu West 1. A large area of burnt mound material (dims. 33m WNW-ESE; 13m NNE-SSW; max. T 1m) overlay a wood-lined trough (dims. 2.2m E-W; 1.65m N-S; D 0.6m), which was at the E end of the mound. A plank from the trough produced a C14 date of Cal BC 1060-820 (Russell 2007a, app. 1). Stratigraphically, it post-dated a smaller fulacht fia (WA009-032002-), the trough of which is just 12m to the NW.   Description

  Situated on the floodplain of the SW-NE River Suir, which is c. 50m to the NW. A sub-triangular pit (dims. 2.2m x 2.6m; D 0.6m) may have been the clay-lined trough of an adjacent small mound of burnt stone (dims. 6m NW-SE; 4m NE-SW; max. T 0.3m), which produced a Carbon 14 date of Cal BC 1020-830 (Russell 2007a, app. 1). It was subsumed into the large fulacht fia (WA009-032001-), the trough of which is c. 12m to the SE.   Description

  Located on the floodplain of the River Suir. First identified in centre-line testing (02E0441) in advance of the N25 Waterford City by-pass (Murphy and O'Neill 2002, 28, figs 9, 10b) and later fully excavated (03E0587) by I. Russell (Knockhouse 7). An oval feature (dims. 0.95m x 0.75m; T 0.07m) of light brown oxidized clay is interpreted as a hearth. Artefacts including a flint scraper, medieval pottery and a clay pipe stem were found in the topsoil. The fulachta fia (WA009-032001-; WA009-032002-) are c. 160m to the NE.
