  Description

  Situated on a low ridge, on S-facing slope of a high hill. Ringfort (WM031-046----) lies c. 106m to SE. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a circular-shaped earthwork. Monument described in 1973 as a circular-shaped area (diam. 21m) enclosed by a low earthen bank with slight traces of an external fosse. No clear entrance feature visible. The interior has a slight S-facing slope with the remains of broad cultivation ridges. visible. Monument is obscured today by an area of scrub on Digital Globe aerial photography. • WM031-046 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on S-facing slope, in pasture with Ballintober House 140m to SW. Ringfort (WM031-045----) lies c. 106m to NW and ringfort (WM031-047----) lies c. 110m to NE. Depicted as a circular grove of trees and not as an antiquity on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. Monument described in 1973 as a circular-shaped area (approx. diam. 36m) enclosed by a drystone wall with the remains of a shallow external fosse. The interior is much higher than the ground outside the wall and previously appears to have had a double ring of trees. This may have been a ringfort which was converted into a landscaped tree ring in the post 1700 period. Monument is visible today as a roughly circular-shaped tree-planted area on Digital Globe aerial photography. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien.   Description

  Situated on S-facing slope of a high hill, in pasture, with commanding views to E, S and W. Ballintober House 300m to SW. Possible ringfort (WM031-046----) lies c. 106m to SW. Depicted as a circular grove of trees and not as an antiquity on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. Monument described in 1973 as a roughly circular-shaped area (diam. 30m) enclosed by a low earth and stone scarp. There are the remains of a low drystone wall set on top of the scarp from WSW-W-WNW. A field boundary running NW-SE adjoins the scarp at ENE. No clear entrance feature visible. The interior is level and some oak trees grow within and on the scarp. This may have been a ringfort which was converted into a landscaped tree ring in the post-1700 period.   Description

  Situated on a slight rise, in pasture. Enclosure (WM031-118---) lies c. 100m to NE. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as an oval-shaped earthwork. Monument described in 1973 as a roughly circular-shaped area (diam. 32m) enclosed by a low earth and stone bank with slight remains of an outer fosse. The interior is relatively level. A souterrain (WM031-048001-) is visible in the NW quadrant and a house site (WM031-048002-) is located in the centre. Monument is visible today as a circular-shaped tree-lined earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography which appears to have been incorporated into an adjoining farmyard to N and W.   Description

  Situated on a slight rise, in pasture. In the NW quadrant of ringfort (WM031-048----) are the remains of a souterrain. The exposed portion of the souterrain (dims. L 3.5m; Wth 1.2m) may represent the entrance. The roof of the passage is covered by stone lintels and the side walls are defined by drystone corbelling constructed of small boulders.   Situated on a slight rise, in pasture. In the centre of ringfort (WM031-048----) is an arrangement of stones which may represent a house site.
