- WM006-035 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on low-lying marshy ground with stream marking townland boundary with Ballyharney immediately to W and NW. Ringfort (WM006-052----) 30m to SE. Bog 530m to NE. Depicted as a circular enclosure on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map and as 'Site of Fort' on the revised 1875 ed. OS 6-inch map. Monument partially levelled between these dates. Present remains consist of a slightly raised sub-circular area (diam. 28m N-S) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank, shallow fosse, poorly preserved external earthen bank at N and S only with external fosse (Wth 3m) visible from N-E-S-SW. The slightly raised interior has slight traces of cultivation ridges. At SE there is a rectangular-shaped area or annexe (Wth c. 14m) defined by a shallow fosse. This annexe area is visible on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. Modern drains intersect the site at N and W. - WM006-052 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on low-lying poorly drained marshy ground overlooked by high ridge to E. Ringfort(WM006-035----) 30m to NW. Bog 530m to NE. A sub-circular area (approx. diam. 22m NW-SE; 29m NW-SE) enclosed by a poorly preserved bank, fosse, outer bank and external fosse. Radial ditches cross the outer fosse at W, NE, N & NNE. The interior has two low mounds (like inverted saucers) and traces of cultivation ridges which run NE-SW. A linear depression, possibly a drain crosses the interior from NW-SE. Unusual siting for a ringfort, and its morphological features suggest that this may be something other than a ringfort. The marshy terrain may suggest that this is some form of barrow type monument. Description

- WM006-032 Castle - motte and bailey
Description
Situated on low lying ground on the E bank of the Inny River. A fording point over the river is depicted here on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map and an eel weir is also shown to the N of the motte. Ringfort (WM006-033----) 550m to NE. Moated site (WM006-051----) 750m to SE. On the 1837 OS Fair Plan map the monument is marked as 'Moat' and as 'Ballyharney Fort'. A steep-sided flat-topped earthen mound (top diam. 10m N-S; 10.5m E-W), enclosed by a fosse (Wth 5m) visible at SW only. Part of the mound has been quarried away on the NW and NE, and spoil from the dredging of the Inny River has been dumped against the W side of the monument. Small square shaped field (approx. dims. 40m N-S; 45m E-W) immediately E of motte visible on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011 may represent the remains of a bailey area. Description
Situated on a slight rise in gently undulating pasture land with good views in all directions. Bog 220m to NW. Earthwork (WM006-030----) 370m to NNW. Depicted as a circular enclosure on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map, this site has been substantially levelled. What remains is a slightly raised circular area (approx. diam. 32m N-S; and 34m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earthen bank only visible from W-N-NNE and a shallow poorly preserved fosse (Wth 2.5m) and a well preserved outer bank only visible from W-N-E. A large sub-circular area (approx. diam. 56m N-S; 54m E-W) enclosed by a very poorly preserved earthen bank and a shallow fosse only visible from NE-E. A modern drain intersects the site at SE & S.
