  Description

  The cropmark of a large circular enclosure (approx. diam. 100m N-S) is visible on Digital Globe aerial photographs with small quarry cutting into NNW quadrant of enclosure. • WM003-010 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a low round-topped natural rise surrounded by gently undulating and hilly land of poor to average pasture. Depicted as a circular enclosure on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map with farm buildings immediately to S and W. On this map a field boundary running N-S is shown intersecting the perimeter of the monument at E. On the 1911 ed. OS 25-inch map only curving field boundary to the N of two farm buildings represents the S enclosing element of this ringfort. A sub-circular shaped area (diam. 22m) defined by a low poorly preserved earth and stone bank mainly reduced to a scarp with no evidence of an enclosing fosse or entrance feature.   Description

  Situated on top of a low natural hillock with good views to S and SW, with stream 65m to NW. Ringfort (WM006-025----) 415m to ENE and possible souterrain (WM003-013001-) 170m to SW. A rectangular-shaped area (approx. dims. 20m N-S ; 28m E-W) enclosed by a low poorly preserved earthen bank mainly reduced to a scarp with traces of an external fosse visible at W only. No entrance feature visible. The interior is uneven, rising towards the centre. There may have been a house or other features in the centre of the earthwork, however this area is somewhat disturbed and cannot be properly deciphered now.   Description

  Situated on top of a small but prominent round-topped natural hillock surrounded by hilly and gently undulating land with excellent views to the S and SW. Ringfort (WM001-046----) 380m to N, two ringforts (WM003-017----; WM003-018----) 300m to SSE, ringfort (WM003-016----) 360m to SW. No surface remains visible of levelled ringfort possible. Depicted as a circular enclosure on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. On the revised 1911 ed. OS 25-inch map the ringfort is depicted with a disused quarry cutting across the SW quadrant of the monument.   Description

  Situated at the base of the E facing slope of a steep prominent irregular shaped ridge, surrounded by hilly land with good views to SSE. Ringfort (WM003-015----) 360m to NNE, two ringforts (WM003-017----; WM003-018----) 370m to E. No surface remains visible of levelled ringfort. Described in 1956 as a ringfort consisting of a circular shaped area (diam. 32m N-S; 29m E-W) enclosed by a low earthen bank (Wth 1.8m; H 0.6m) with several gaps but no clear entrance feature and no external fosse visible (OPW Field Report 08/11/1956).   Description

  Situated on SW slope of a natural hill with ringfort (WM003-018----) 40m to E, disused quarry 65m to NE. No monument is depicted at this location on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map and feature is depicted as a semi-circular shaped earthwork on 1911 ed. OS 25-inch map. A semi-circular shaped rise of ground defined by a low bank of earth and stone with traces of a shallow external fosse visible from NE-E-S-SSW only, with gap at SE which may represent an entrance feature (Wth 1.2m). Interior slopes considerably from NE-SW. The S side of the earthwork is intersected by a field boundary running NE-SW.   Situated on top of a steep hillock with ringfort (WM003-017----) 30m to W. Ringfort (WM003-022----) 430m to NE, ringfort (WM006-019----) 180m to S, ringfort (WM003-015----) 340m to NW. A sub-circular shaped area (diam. 36m) enclosed by a substantial earth and stone bank, wide shallow round-bottomed external fosse with causewayed entrance gap (Wth 1.1m) at SE.   Description

  Situated on SE facing slope of steep hillock. Ringfort (WM003-017----; WM003-018----) 180m to N, ringfort (WM003-020----) immediately to SE and ringfort (WM003-021----) 80m to SSE. Roughly raised circular-shaped area (approx. int. diam. 38m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank with wide deep external fosse and causewayed entrance gap at SE which has been widened by modern quarrying.   Description

  Situated on SE facing slope of steep hillock. Ringfort (WM003-017----; WM003-018----) 180m to N, ringfort (WM003-019----) immediately to NW and ringfort (WM003-021----) 50m to SSE. Depicted as a circular shaped ringfort on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map and as a partial enclosure on the revised 1911 ed. OS 25-inch map. On this latter map only the arc of the enclosing bank bank is depicted from N-E. Present remains consist of a tree-lined curving bank upstanding only from N-E-SE, slight traces of an external fosse at E only with possible evidence of a causewayed entrance gap (Wth 2m) at SE. Originally the monument consisted of a small circular area enclosed by an earth and stone bank with external fosse and causewayed entrance at SE.   Description

  Situated on a natural rise on well drained pasture-land. Ringforts (WM003-020----; WM003-019----) 60m to NNW, ringfort (WM003-023----) 290m to E. Roughly oval-shaped area (diam. 32m) enclosed by a substantial earth and stone bank, wide deep round-bottomed external fosse, no entrance clearly visible. Enclosing bank forms field boundary from S-W-NW as depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. Several modern gaps in bank. The interior is sub-divided by a straight bank of stony earth. • WM003-025 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on the top of a slight but pronounced natural rise of ground with good views to S and W. A roughly circular area enclosed by a low earth and stone bank, with shallow fosse and external bank visible from N-NE and from SE-S-W only, with causewayed entrance gap (Wth 2.7m) at SSE. The ringfort is intersected at E by a roadway running N-S which destroys the enclosing elements of the monument on this side. In the N quadrant of the ringfort interior there is a low stony rise which possibly indicates the remains of a house site but this is uncertain. A crescent-shaped annexe defined by a low earthen bank adjoins the ringfort to the NW. A low L-shaped earthen bank in the S quadrant of the annexe defines a roughly square shaped area. This earthwork is too large to represent the remains of a house site. The interior of the annexe is much disturbed by cultivation ridges running ENE-W-SW.   Situated on top of a slight but prominent natural rise, ringfort (WM003-025----) 140m to NNW, church site (WM003-006---) 160m to SSW. The grass-covered wall footings of a small rectangular house site with entrance gap at S are visible in S quadrant of a ringfort (WM003-026----). Extending NNE from the N corner of the inside of the inner bank on the NNE is a slight embankment. A series of low earthen banks to the E and W of the ringfort probably represent an ancient field system (WM003-026002-) contemporaneous with the monument.
